As much as I have discovered that I love this storytelling format, I don't think more than one at a time would be well received.
I just finished chapter 3. I feel bad for Fitz following the scene where (view spoiler). Yep, he done messed up there. It seems a very teenage-appropriate scene. I may have outgrown any interest in characters' romantic relationships as a general rule, although I loved Eleanor & Park which I read recently. I think I found the relationship in that other book to be highly emotionally genuine, whereas I struggle against finding this scene with Fitz to be merely serving a structural purpose, to set up conflict/problems that will have to be resolved in some way later of just to add complications for the character. It was well-written though, and felt mostly authentic, at least on the other character's part.
Anyone? Anyone? I am at 80% so far and hoo boy! Things are really heating up. I am totally sold on Robin Hobb now. All of the characters are terrific, the setting is utterly believable, and there are so many intriguing hooks. My only beef is the most immediate villains have been so utterly transparent throughout.
Here I am all alone... at least I finished the book, and loved it! If you thought Fitz was left a wreck at the end of the last book, you ain't seen nothing yet.
Book #3 is terrific! Too bad that no one here is reading it with me. I get the experience all to myself, mwa ha ha ha. Hope to finish it today.
Hi Marc, I'm glad you're enjoying book #3. I read book #1 with the buddy read and loved it. I'm planning on starting book #2 later this month. I'm surprised nobody else continued the buddy reads though. I'm a super slow reader and felt like I needed to read something else in between.

I break up my series also but have been reading so much this year (by force of will) that I fit several books in between these monthly installments. I plan to keep reading Robin Hobb but yeah, after a break. I probably will not start her next series until 2020. Got to clear off my TBR shelf first!
I am sure that if you loved book 1, you will continue to enjoy the series.

I did join the June buddy read for Assassin's Apprentice (Farseer #1) and while I'm really enjoying it, I still have 100 pages to go (oops!) and I don't think I'll have time for Royal Assassin (Farseer #2) in July. I have also been struggling through The Name of the Wind which I aim to finish this month - then I'll need a break from the "young boy with special abilities goes to fantasy school" type of story!
