I made the mistake of reading the entirety of the book within the last 48 hours or so rather than smoothly paced, but I'm glad I did read it. I knew Tobia was a prominent LGBTQ activist, but before reading their book, I had no idea just how much so (MAJOR props on that heeled run). I thought it was interesting to read their perspective on gender as a prison, watching people always fall back on their prescribed roles as men or women, even after sharing experiences with them in which gender meant nothing (i.e. the nature excursion as a freshman). One of the things I related to (although in a completely different way because I am a cisgender woman) was the stress of finding the right kind of "professional outfit." I feel like to be seen as professional I have to wear pants, despite loving wearing skirts and dresses. I am a femme lesbian, and I do treat it as a statement. I absolutely align my outfits with how angry or laid back I'm feeling. Most of my femme friends wear skirts to relax. I wear skirts when I'm feeling most like an angry feminist. Not the point though! I love my femininity, and I love that Jacob Tobia loves their femininity. There is no shame in being a sissy, whether you're male, female, or anywhere in between or outside of. I love that Tobia is here to fight for this every day. I love that they wrote this book for everyone who doesn't understand their own feelings just yet. Whoever can make it to the meeting, we'll go into this more tonight. Whoever can't, I would absolutely love love love to hear your thoughts! Let's chat!
