The nominations thread for the August (and into September) Classics Read is now open, please suggest your book choices below.

Please note there will be no pre and post 1900 rule from now on. Any classic book will count.

All books need to be seconded by someone else in order to get to the voting stage.

Gulliver's Travels automatically goes forward to the poll as it was runner-up last time, and does not need to be nominated or seconded.

This thread will remain open until 7th July and then will be closed for voting.

Nominated:
Confessions of Zeno

Nominated and Seconded:
Gulliver's Travels
Our Man In Havana
One Hundred Years of Solitude
The House of Mirth

We recently read The Black Tulip for the second time didn't we? If a book was last read 5 years ago, there may be new members who would like to read it - maybe Mods could think about a reread rule?

It's on my to-read list, so that would be great.

message 14: by Pamela (new)

Pamela (bibliohound) I'll second The House of Mirth

message 15: by Amaranta (new)

Amaranta Valenzuela | 6 comments Both books are magnificent! Does anybody else second 100 years of solitude or would like to second Live in the Time of Cholera? I'd prefer the first one, I have a special edition with drawings and a family map in my bookcase :)

message 16: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 161 comments I'm already planning to read 100 years of solitude very soon so it would be a good pick for me.

I'm happy to go with the mods decision about whether or not it's against the rules though.

message 17: by Summerdale (new)

Summerdale | 5 comments One Hundred Years of Solitude has been rotting on my shelf for years. Time to dust it off. I'm in.

Neither are for me. I've read them but didn't like it at all. Found them very raw.

Jazzy Lemon (jazzylemon) | 274 comments I would like to nominate Confessions of Zeno by Italo Svevo

I had a read of the beginning on my holiday and if you've ever smoked or tried to quit smoking, you'll be hooked.
