I've not long read this whole series, absolutely fantastic I loved them all can't wait to see what you think and join in with you all chatting.also started watching the TV series and have an obsession with Mads Mikkelsen who plays Hannibal (and I don't really care how bad he is)

Yay! So appreciate you joining in to discuss with us!
As a kid growing up in Quebec, the only English books that I could buy were usually just crappy Harlequin romances, Danielle Steele, and that sort of thing. UGH. However- we did sometimes get the 'movie tie-in' edition of novels at the ol' drugstore, and this title was one of those lucky breaks. I think I bought this when I was about 10 or 11 years old. Then, I saw the film before opening the book and so I never actually read it...until now.
*Confession Time:
When I saw that the group would be reading this for July, I jumped the gun and read it in June! *blush*
Don't worry- no spoilers from me - other than to say that I loved it and thought it was brilliantly written. I'll pop over to the other thread in future as I'm excited to talk about this one...don't you just love it when an OLD book is still NEW to you? Know what I mean? :) Cool beans. (FAVA beans!) (sorry.) --Jen from Quebec :0)

I read this one many years ago, then saw the movie when it was in the theaters and re-ran on TV. Always kept me at the edge of my seat, regardless of my prior knowledge. Enjoy all!
Oh god I still get a little chill in the blood when I see the movie and the TV series but the books my god I think where the imagination had to do the work I think the blood just freeze's. :-|

I've seen the movie, but this will be my first time reading the book, and I can't wait!
I have seen the movie a few times and really liked the movie, but did not read the book until now. I finished it in three days! Loved it! Funny thing is I have read Hannibal Rising, and Red Dragon, but not the first book. Anyways, I loved them all.
First time readers....there are some suspense/thriller books one must read again and again. Then, there are some with just the thought of reading ti again sends onymous chills up and down your spine. That was true for me when I first read (first editions) Stephen King’s ‘Pet Cemetery’ and ‘IT’. I couldn’t bring the trash out for weeks nor look at a clown. (Then again, I never did like clowns.) Silence of the Lambs was the same for me. The one and only time I thought of becoming a Vegan. Though I would like to read this one again, I just can’t. My family says I should stop reading this genre....that will never happen!
I can't believe that I've reached 42 and have never seen the movie (too much of a wimp, lol) and never read the book until now (I read it last weekend). It's so crazy! I thought I would be terrified. Now I need to watch the movie! I can list so many books that I've avoided because I thought I would be terrified...It for one (most of King's books if I'm honest). Maybe I will give them a go now and actually watch the movies for those too!
Stephanie,I used to be the same not read or watch things just in case, but I felt I was missing out maybe that should be a challenge next year to read and watch movies you thought was to scary.
I saw the film when I was a kid. My dad had to go out of his way to define what fiction was so I wouldn't be terrified! It remains one of my favorite movies to this day. As for the books, I found a copy of Red Dragon on my college library bookshelf. I would read the series in between studying. I worked my way all the way through Silence and Hannibal. I haven't been able to bring myself to read the prequel novel though.
