Karin | 9650 comments My jaw nearly hit the floor when I opened my email today and I actually won one of these--I'm not sure if it was one of the less popular ones I signed up for, but I'm happy! It's for an author I haven't heard of before, but her first book has good ratings.

I won Home for Erring and Outcast Girls by Julie Kibler

Joanne (joabroda1) | 13326 comments Congrats Karen! I won one last month too-it is the 2nd book though in a series, and I have not read the first one yet! The Dragon Republic, which is a follow up to the Poppy War

Your book looks interesting! Can't wait to see you thoughts

Amy | 13410 comments It’s been awhile since I won one! I’m due! Have a good feeling about one I just entered. Congratulations Karin!

Karen | 41 comments Congratulations. I’ve been very lucky. I won two through Goodreads and one through the Nora Roberts group. The latest one is a sequel to the longest book on my trim list.If it doesn’t get picked for the August one then I shall have to trade it in. It is so exciting. I hope you enjoy the book.

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) | 8681 comments Whoop, Whoop, Whoop!

I also recently won a GR giveaway (after years when I didn't participate at all, I started signing up again earlier this year).

The book that's coming my way: The Electric Hotel by Dominic Smith

==============

And I also recently won a giveaway sponsored by an author whose e-blurb newsletter I follow:
A Bend in the Stars by Rachel Barenbaum

Amy | 13410 comments BC, A neighbor of mine just really highly recommended that book. A bend in the stars

Karin | 9650 comments Thanks!

Ellen, it took me years to win one, so I empathize!

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11460 comments Congrats! It's really fun to get free books in the mail. I have won quite a few books and even more kindles. My favorites so far were Ladder to the Sky, The Caregiver, Evie Drake Starts Over, and a couple work related books. The trick is to take a chance on anything that sounds remotely interesting, and start with the "ending soon" list. The odds are usually much better for kindles. You can enter someone else's address, so I sometimes apply for short thrillers for one son, edgy or tech books for the other one, and chick lit for my niece. They have all won at least one.

It is so strange that veteran PBT's keep saying this-I only started entering a year ago and I have won 3! The Essex Serpent, Transcription and the one I got last month

I think you are right about the "ending soon" Nancy, I believe I was on the tail end of all of my winners!

Life and GR draws aren't fair :)! But I'm happy for you--I don't really have room for new books (but want them anyway).

message 17: by Meli (new)

Meli (melihooker) | 4165 comments I recently stopped entering because I felt my chances were slim and haven't won one yet, but this gives me hope :)

Congrats!

Yes, I've done what you have--entered for some time and then given up. THEN I had the idea to try and enter ones not many people have entered, which is how I won this one. Now I am back to entering some of the bigger ones again, but I'm not going to forget the others since they might be good authors waiting for some good reviews (or bad, since I am not influenced by getting a free book even if it's for a review, and this isn't).

Oh, yeah, that is smart! I should look into some less popular giveaways.
