Jorge Avalos | 1 comments Even thought this book talks about a war in which I had no involvement whatsoever. The Things They Carried is definitely a book you want to read. Mainly focused at the Vietnam War back in the 60's, it narrates a story about a young men and its squat, trying to survive a war mostly considered unjust. This gives you a better point of understanding what the war really ment, and gives you the sensation that you are inside one. You read the daily lives of these young men as they travel the dense jungle. Not a long book, yet it grabs your attention in the first pages. A little bit of history, drama and war all combined to make a tasteful piece of literature.

Ignacio Michel | 1 comments The things they carried is a "Need To Read" book. Because the book is constantly changing places and story I would recommend this book for High School students or older. If you want to learn about the Vietnam war you should definitely read about the book because it is very informative and it will definitely help you visualize the situation and the perspective of the soldiers that fought throughout this war. I would recommend this book for people that enjoy war books and history books in particular but overall is a great book and very enjoyable to read.

Manuel | 1 comments Tim O'Brien's fantastic war novel truly shows what is and what is not a true war story. O'Brien uses incredibly good description to set the author in the most noble and truest scenario of the war in Vietnam. Although the book is packed with a lot of description and heavy text without dialogue, the writing is not overtiring and O'Brien does a great job in connecting ideas and images that put the reader's mind into understanding the meaningless war in Vietnam.

Dae Hyun | 1 comments The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien is a really realistic book, yet it is a narrative fiction. The stories in this book have so many perspectives and different meanings in them. The death of a soldier is never a simple death, but a burden to carry on their backs, and they also show not only that there is death in war, but there are also other things that are horrible in war (such as insanity and fear). Many war stories talk about heroic battles and try to teach life lessons. Unlike those, this book gives situations that are so cruel that they become real, and in this book, fear of death is not the only issue that soldiers face. The Things They Carried doesn't just talk about death and goriness, but shows the fear of being called a coward that soldiers had. That fear was such that soldiers refused to give up and/or go back, which causes all the insanity to appear in the platoon. I really recommend this book to those who do not like meaningless heroic battle epics, but would rather enjoy a realistic war with bits of insanity.

Santiago Hurtado | 1 comments The Things they Carried is a book full of action, realism and the true meaning of war. Tim O'Brien does a great job narrating the horrors of war and the relationships between soldiers. This book is also a great tribute to all of those soldiers to lost their lives in battle. The thing that makes this book special is the amount of detailed description it contains which helps the story flow very well and add a greater sense of reality and suspense. The Things the Carried is must read!

Pablo | 1 comments The Things They Carried is a great book for those who enjoy action and dramatic stories. O'Brien's book teaches great lessons about self esteem and reputation. The variety of characters makes it easy for the reader to identify with one of them. The stories in this book display a huge importance of what brotherhood and love are during war. It persuades the reader to fight for what's right. Reading the book will give the reader a great perspective of what soldiers face during war. The emotional and physical burdens they need to carry through.
