I bought Blood Promise and A Duke of Her Own yesterday at Target.

My latest splurge was last Thurs. at B&N. I rarely buy new books, so this was a treat mostly in support of a book fair fundraiser our school was doing there. I bought Christine Feehan's Dark Prince and each of my kids got a book they wanted as well as gifts for their teachers.

I bought Identical & The Book Thief on a dutch website yesterday! Now I'm waiting for them, the fun part!

How much did you pay for The Book Thief Emma? Mine was 12€, I normally buy them on Amazon because I think it's cheaper (but let's compare :D).

I hate the waiting part...

Identical was 15 euros & The Book Thief was only 9,99.

I also hate the waiting part! I check my mailbox 5 times a day sometimes lol! I used to buy them on Amazon too, but because I live in Belgium, the books get here faster from the dutch site! But 12 euros is pretty cheap for a novel, maybe I should check it out next time!

Mine was here in 3 days, (Even when I ordered it on a Saturday night!) if you use Amazon.co.uk.

Where do you live? That's really fast! Faster than my books! I think it's time I switch back to Amazon!

I bought Blood Promise, and With Seduction in Mind at Barnes and Noble about a week ago. I just started Blood Promise. I would have read it right away, but life has been hectic. :(

The Girl Who Played with Fire! Bought it the day it came out and finished it within the week! It was so good! I'm obsessed with Lisbeth Salander. Such an amazing character.

My next splurge will probably be The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest, which I believes comes out in October. I'll probably buy The Book Thief then as well since I've wanted it forever.

I've been trying to be very good about not buying to many books and planning out my buys.

Yesterday, I've bought 10 books from the library. Only 5 were romance books.

Alien Hand Syndrome - Alan Bellows (I've known him for several years, not getting his book was not an option.)

Bored of the Rings - Harvard Lampoon (I have a copy from the original printing somewhere, not sure where, needed to make the $25 for free shipping from amazon, and this was in the right price range

a 2010 calendar (very cool one, it's from House.)

Two Megan Hart novellas from Harlequinn Spice,bought today.

No biggie, sorry about being nitpicky. And all the fun variations of 'your' confuse native English speakers all the time too.

I went to Barnes and Noble last night and bought The Halloween Tree by Ray Bradbury and also picked up Mr. Darcy, Vampyre by Amanda Grange. That was a weird one for me but all the Mr. Darcy books out there drive me batty. I just don't get it! But I'm on a vampire kick right now. :-)

All right, I did it. I ordered The Lost Symbol. But I'm getting it from a BOMC division, and I used my bonus points, so it's only cosing me $8.

Saturday, I had a chance to go to the library and I've bought 9 romance books.

Most of these are for my Halloween TBR list. For the Holidays I set aside my usual TBR list and go to my Halloween list for October. Thanksgiving for November and CHristmas reads for December and then go back to my usual TBR pile at the start of the New Year. Because, yes, I really am that big of a dork.

I don't know if this is the right place to do this, but I would like to rant about the price of books. More and more of my favorite authors are coming out in hardcover. Trade size paperbacks are outnumbering mass market paperbacks on my favorite scifi/mystery bookstores newsletters.

Do not suggest libraries. I am a shut-in. My library fines often come to more than the price of the books when I can't get someone to go to the library for me.

This is just a rant. I have got it out of my system and I will have to go over my budget again and give up another non-necessity to add to my book budget. I am thinking diet soda. It is not supposed to be good for you anyway.

I have three solutions...I hope at least one of them helps you...but you should give up the soda anyways. They really are bad for you. :\

1. you could purchase online because most sites have discounts or do what I do and get rid of those books you're embarassed to admit you have (you know the ones) and post them on paperbackswap.com. There you get two credits after you post ten books and each credit will get you a book. If you want a book that isn't posted then you add it to your wishlist. This is really beneficial for the books that are not SUPER new. But the super new ones you're better off buying online.

2. You could get a kindle. Or another version...there's an inexpensive version coming out before Christmas for 150. The books are muuuuch cheaper this way. BUT THEN YOU LOSE HAVING THE PHYSICAL BOOK. Just a suggestion though.

3. See if your local bookstore has a membership. Mine does and I get 20 percent off any book and an additional 40% of a hardback and coupons in the mail for an additional percentage off etc.

Lastly, perhaps you might have a discount book store in your neighborhood? I had a buck a book until recently...

I am already doing all those and using Amazon's 3 for 4 program also.

What you probably don't get though is that most months my book budget is exceeded only by rent and food. It is the one thing I didn't cut back on when I was forced by my health to retire.

Mine was just an overall rant. It is because it is something I can't even think about cutting back on.
I exchange books with both my brother and my best friend, so I will manage.

It is just the gouging of the publishing industry that I object to. I know of where upon I speak because I spent almost 30 years working for a publishing company and I know the price of producing both books and cds. Also, the pennies that electric transmissions cost.

Enough of my rant. Speaking of work, we always had a bookcase where people brought in books they read and wanted to trade. It was amazing how up to date some genres were.

For those looking for cheap books I suggest looking for big sales at your local libraries. I've been able to stock up using the following website: http://www.booksalefinder.com/ Just pick your state and it gives you a listing of libraries with sales in your area broken down by month.

Yes, I read it last year around Halloween. I know how you feel. It is REALLY slow going but then there is this point (like at the top of a roller coaster) when you can't put the book down but it takes a LONG ways to get there. Don't worry about not picking it back up though. A lot of people have said the same thing...but perhaps you could pick it up around Halloween as it does get rather creepy and last year I remember having really creepy nightmares for weeks because of this book. It's not outright scary...just enough to make you think you see something in the dark corners of your room...good times.

I bought The Help and finished it within three days. I am jealous girls!!! I am trying so haRd not to buy. I have approx. 12 books here that I bought over a year ago that I have not read (I'm a bit of a compulsive buyer a times) and have decided to try and read them before I buy more.. but oh the TEMPTATION!!!! There are just so many good recommendations out there..

No way! You do NOT get that information without a first date! hahaha. Kidding...um...roughly maybe 40ish books? I collect first editions and out of print books "classics to read" and so on and I have several TBR piles (literally). One for each month up until February of next year...then my "classics" TBR which I pick up from if I finish my monthly TBR early and have nothing to read until the start of the new month. I usually get through maybe one classic a month...except for this month. I started Don Quixote and have had to put it off till next month as I started October reads early...I just couldn't help myself! My monthly TBR piles include my bookclub reads so I usually have quite a few books to get through a month but they vary in length and, with the exception of Dracula, most of the books I have for next month are relatively short. So, yes, not counting my TBR piles for Jan and Feb of next year I would say around 40ish...no judgment please...also, just so you don't think the worste of me, I trade a lot of my books and am a member of several book swaps so I only pay full price for a book if it JUST came out and I HAVE to read it. Otherwise, I just wait for it to show up on one of the sites I'm on.

Seriously, I am equally impressed to say the least... you are obviously well read, have an immense love of books. Ah, I want to buy Megans Way by Melissa Foster, Two Part Invention:The Story of a Marriage by Madeleine L'Engle and Say You're One of Them by Uwem Akpau. Have you read any of them? the latter I am particulary keen on getting... most certainly before I'm thru with my dirty dozen. Have you read any "page turners" of late.(ps I enjoy your wit)

Actually, I can think of a couple of goodreads peeps that FAR surpass my lists. haha. But thank you! I don't feel well read. Frankly, the more I read the more I realize there's so much more I have yet to read. It's a vicious cycle Bev. Vicious and incredibly addictive.

I have not read Megan's Way or Say you're One of Them but I have Say You;re One of Them on my wishlist PBS! It only came out last year so the list is a little long but I am looking forward to getting it! As for Megan's Way, I have not heard of it but I will look it up. :) I love getting tips on future reads so thank you! As for The Story of a Marriage. I have read it. Ummm...it was okay. There was definitely some turn of phrase that I found to be really lovely but I don't remember the novel being super. I Just remember liking it but not loving it. Does that make sense?
Still, I think you should read it. Perhaps you will get more from it then I did? One of the many things I have learned from goodreads is that a book I may love others may have hated and vice versa! So, tell me what you think of it when you're done!

I just bought our group read The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova. I will most likely pick just one of the two group reads. I have sooo much I want to read!

I bought a Christmas present for my mom, Pihkovan Kellot by Laila Hirvisaari, and a present for my dad for Father's Day, Koljatti by Jari Tervo. I tried to find Stephen King's Duma Key in Finnish but turns out I remembered wrong since it's not coming out until the 20th, oops. :)

Sounds like you have your work cut out for you! I would love to hear your thoughts on An Unfinished Life as I have that one and haven't felt compelled to pick it up...all I need is one person to tell me it's out of this world and I'll read it. But the book doesn't come up a lot...can't wait to hear how you like it!
