I have a nookcolor and the first nook tablet (the silver one that is similar to the nookcolor) and I love them. They are extremely easy to use, which is always a plus. I have two because we got my mom and iPad last year for Christmas so she wasn't going to be using her nook anymore. I took it because my nookcolor's battery was running down pretty quickly. My sister hadn't stored it correctly, of course lol. The one downside would be that you have to make the screen brighter in order to read during the day. If you read in bed at night like I do then you have to turn the screen to its lowest setting in order to avoid the blinding light. Another thing, I have had to restart it on a couple of occasions because it would either skip pages or go backward when I was trying to go forward. I have also had it freeze up on me and wouldn't turn on for about thirty minutes or so.I don't know about the newer nooks, but I would definitely get one if I didn't have the nook tablet. I also don't want to give up my Kate Spade green and black New York cover lol, especially since it won't fit the new nooks. I hope I have helped someone out. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask. :)
I did have two kobo 1st editions but both of them broke on me, but I still use the kobo app on my phone and have been using the kindle app as well.
I hope to buy another ereader in the future, but I will still primarily buy hardbacks.

I'm thinking of getting an e-reader. I kind of want the new magenta Kindle, but I might just go all out and get an iPad because I have a lot of iBooks on my Mac already. I can get the Kindle and Nook apps, and still be able to use the iPad for other things.
I've been contemplating an iPad lately too. Especially now that my library has e-books available for lending and my nook doesn't do so well on browsing the internet. It's too slow. There are also free e-books I see in the group that I want, but I can't download because I am just limited to the nook and don't have the kindle app or any of the others. I hate reading on my phone because it's too small. The only time I don't mind is when I'm at the doctor's office or somewhere.
I have a Kindle paperwhite. I gave this to myself as a birthday present this year. Best-present-ever!!!
Sandra wrote: "I have a Kindle paperwhite. I gave this to myself as a birthday present this year. Best-present-ever!!!"I bought a Kindle Paperwhite for my own Christmas present this year. :) I can't wait to get it in.
I've had the first generation Nook, which as others have said is now discontinued (darn you B&N) and I've used the Nook Simple Reader which I really liked while I had it.
I have 3 Nooks, the original, NookColor, and Nook tablet HD. And I have the Kindle Fire. So yeah, I know a little bit about this. They both have advantages and drawbacks. I find the Nook to be more user friendly and easier to organize. And you can lend/ borrow books if they are lendable. However, the Kindke does do all the things the Nook does, besides the shelving system, and from what I understand you can lend/borrow books. I just havent figured that part ou yet. I have noticed though that there are alot more books available on Kindle than Nook, and cheaper on Amazon as opposed to B&N. When I go on my downloading sprees that 50 cent difference in price impacts which company I'm buying from. If your going wirh the ipad option, you can only read from thise apps. You can not lend/borrow or download books off of them. You have to go on each site to download a book. Hope this helps. Hope this helps

I think I want to go for a tablet, too. I hate being tied to a laptop all the time for stuff. I've been playing on a Kindle Fire when I babysit, but I feel like the screen is too small. lol

I do like that with a tablet you can get both Kindle and Nook books...
This is so complicated. lol I'll probably just end up with an iPad because everything else I own is Apple.

Erin- ipad is prob best for u if ur a fan of apple and want all ur books on 1 device. And as I stated before if ur only reading from each app then yeah... Ur getting exactly what u need. Just jeep in mind u can only read off those apps. If u need to download a book, u have to go to amazon or b&n to do it. But being that its an ipad, u wont have any issues jumping on the internet and downloading whatever book u want. As soon as u buy them, the books show up immediately in ur apps Good luck and happy reading!

The nice thing about the regular e-readers is the viewing of it, no worries about straining your eyes. :)
I've also messed around with an ipad and i like it well enough, but I wouldn't be able to take reading books on it for long amounts of time. I'm not as young as I used to be, haha.

I've gotten free books from the Kindle store before for my iPod. It's not bad at all. lol
I'd mostly just be using it for my NetGalley and Edelweiss approvals.

My eyes are already ruined, but they've been getting better. I usually dim my screens and am able to read from them. But that would be nice about the regular e-reader. I can usually only stare at a regular book for about an hour or two before my eyes get tired, so either way, it's not a fun thing.

I think if you're only using it for E-ARCS mainly, then an e-reader would be cheaper at least. That's why I bought mine, haha.
But if you wanted to use it for other stuff, like you mentioned, a tablet could be better. Hmm...Not really helping you narrow it down, huh?

I think I might go with the tablet because I play some games, too. And I could pull it out during prep periods when I sub so I don't get bored. :)

I don't know if this helps, or if you know already, but the new Nooks now are Samsung Galaxy tablets. If you're a fan of Samsung. Personally I don't like them. The Stratosphere phone I had kept messing up and wouldn't stay charged for very long especially after I downloaded their update they suggested. They're newer Galaxy phone at that time was coming out so I think they did it on purpose so you would get frustrated with yours and buy the new one lol.

I don't know if I've ever had anything Samsung. I've had LG phones for as long as I can remember, and my next one is going to be an iPhone.
I've heard that the new Nooks are a lot better than before. I might go and play with them before I make my final decision.

I wish I would've waited because they're so much better now than they were, but I still like the one I have now because I pretty well just use it for reading. Good luck making your decision. It's definitely hard to decide what to go with. All I know about Samsung is don't get their dishwasher lol.

The most basic Kindle right now is on sale for $59, with the Paperwhite being $99, just so you know. One of the main reasons I didn't go with the Nook this time around is because I don't believe E-ARCS from Edelweiss are able to be read on the Nook, while they can on the Kindle and Ipad.
Amber - Okay. That's good to know because I've started using EW more than NetGalley. It would be terrible to buy something and not be able to use it for what I need.
I ended up getting the Kindle Fire HD 7. It was very frustrating at first, but I think I'm getting the hang of it.
I got an iPad for Christmas. I have four reading apps downloaded lol. In my defense one of them is for my library.
Years and years ago, when ereaders were just gaining the spotlight, me and my sister both got the original KOBO ereaders. Unfortuneately they froze about a year or so later and wouldn't work anymore.
Then, I finally bought myself a cell phone for the first time and read my ebooks on my tiny phone screen via the KOBO app and later I downloaded the KINDLE app.
My sister got a NOOK for Christmas one year but said she didn't like it due to it not being compatible with the one app she wanted most (instagram). So she gave that ereader to my mom and she got a new KINDLE fire, but yet again instagram didn't work on that machine so she gave that ereader to my mother as well.
My mom would've given me my sisters old NOOK but my mom has a lot of ebooks on the KOBO app as well as the KINDLE app and unfortuneately the KINDLE fire doesn't allow the KOBO app on its machine so my mother needed both machines.
Then, the new Samsung Tab Nook released and me and my sister both got one. It is utterly amazing! The screen is giant!

I have a Nook that I love reading on. The only bad part about an eReader is having to charge it, especially when you are on a good part in the story you are reading and warning pops up saying please plug in your device! I have also found that if I read too long on it I will come down with a migraine
Janessa wrote: "I have a Nook that I love reading on. The only bad part about an eReader is having to charge it, especially when you are on a good part in the story you are reading and warning pops up saying pleas..."
Migraines are what I was worried about because I have what the neurologist called Chronic Migraine Syndrome and post-concussive syndrome. I've been okay with the e-reader if I keep the screen black and the text white, which is something I couldn't do when reading e-books on my laptop.
Besides, I'm more only using it every so often, like when I have review books to read.

I have a Nook HD+ and I love it, but I wish I would've waited for the tie-in with Samsung. That's the next big buy I do haha :) The price is just so unbeatable. You gotta love B&N

I want to go test those just for fun. I really just got the Kindle for my eARCs, but testing products is a guilty pleasure for me. lol

@Erin I catch myself going into the Best Buys around here and just checking out the tablets and stuff too, so you are not alone lol.
