I really enjoyed the genre challenges. I think it is really good to get people to step out of their normal reading habits and explore new things. Here are a few suggestions for topics for the challenges other than genres.*Pick a current New York Times Best Seller
*Pulitzer Prize winner
*Oprah book club selection
*The longest book you can find that still sounds good (followed by a challenge for best book under 200 pages!)
*Banned Books
*You could be silly and just say something like "pick a purple book."
*Dewey ranges in NF
*Make someone else in your life choose your book
I'm sure I could come up with more, but my kiddos are currently whining! :)
Thanks, Pattie! These are all really great suggestions. I wouldn't be surprised if some of them make it into next year's challenge...Everyone else, feel free to leave your suggestions here.
Virginia Beach Public Library had "summer reading bingo" this year. Some of their bingo squares would be really great mini-challenges, I think. There were a lot of good ones, but I think my favorite was "revisit a childhood favorite."

I have to agree with Pattie. I really enjoy the genre challenges - even though I try to combine them with a mystery ;-).
Some of my suggestions are:
Read a YA book
Read a book from a series
Read a popular nonfiction book
