The one I'm looking for I remember buying it over 10 years ago and the girl was on the cover with her head turned to the side and a woman with long black hair was behind her. She moves to where her extended family lives and I believe her mother may have died (as she is not around in the book). I remember her discovering that a male family member went missing some time ago and she wanders around the area and comes across a different "land/world/time" and finds that the family member came to that place as well and lived his life there. She travels to a from a few times I think but not fully believing that it's real. I know in this "other world" she meets a boy her age and they become friends and they aren't as technologically advanced... I believe they use carriages and horses. Definitely a magical type book.

This sounds like a book I'm looking for as well, which is also a YA book about a young woman who travels back in time. Some things I remember:She must have travelled overnight, as she wakes up in a strange bed and can't figure out how to get dressed in all these old-fashioned clothes. She can't find a bra anywhere.
Later, she gets her period, and has to figure out how to deal with it by tying rags around her waist.
She works in a textile factory, tying knots in threads that break as they go through the loom.
I think her name is Kate or Katie?

I will post a separate thread as well, but thought I'd post here just in case we are looking for the same book. :)
Turns out my book is called "Halfway Down Paddy Lane." I think it might be different from yours after all, unfortunately. I hope yours turns up soon!http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/57...

Chantal, how does the girl travel back and forth between the other world (e.g., secret passage in the house, mirror, special place in the woods, by touching a special object, falls asleep and it just happens)?
Does the other world appear to be Earth in the past (e.g., time travel) or a fantasy world (e.g., with magic or fantastical creatures)?

There was nothing apparent because she didn't realize. She just walks back and forth. Kinda like in "Mrs Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children"... if you've ever seen it lol.
You mention that the other world is at the horse-and-carriage stage. What is the girl's world -- is it modern 20th century? Do you remember where the girl lives (US, England, Australia...)? Any idea if the book was new at the time you read it (circa 2006)?
This was out in the early 2000s... got it at Chapters (no longer there.. already checked EVERY book they have lol)... in was either in the TEEN section or PRE-TEEN... it was current time in her world... I'm not too sure the country but it reminded me of the maritimes in Canada the way they are by the water and how she described it.
Possibly Saturday, the Twelfth of October? The GR blurb isn't great, but check some of the comments for more details.
Yes, I remember purchasing it from Chapters in Ontario Canada about 15 years ago. They only seem to sell current books or classics. Which means it was a book that was published around that time. I've checked Chapters many times and it never appeared again. I also check thrift stores every now and then... I feel like it's my very own "Serendipity"

I added some details to the header/topic title. You can update it by clicking the small "edit" link after the header. This only works on the full Desktop website - not the Mobile website or app. (On the Mobile website, click the "Desktop version" link at the bottom of the page.)

Tab wrote: "Was this part of a series?"I'm not sure. I don't remember seeing other books similar to that or any mention of it being a series in the actual book.
