I just beat another speeding ticket! :-) This makes number 2 and I didn't even get to pull out my big guns.

I guess when they see you're willing to take a traffic violation to the supreme court if you have to in order to prove your innocence, they just don't wanna waste their time with it.

My first speeding ticket years ago, I took the class. Couple hundred bucks, a few hours, and I was good to go. It still shows up on my record as prayer for judgment, though. (Prayer....interesting).

My second speeding ticket was dismissed. I think they were just being nice.

Now the third one, I pleaded innocent (not 'not guilty') and requested a court date. Court was Monday. I was SO ready to let them know that I was the natural person representing the legal fiction that is SOPHIA MATTHEWS and I would like for them to call the plaintiff, the state of North Carolina to testify (which is impossible), among other arguments I had in my arsenal. I had my tape recorder ready and everything.

But alas, after 2 assistant DAs approached me on 4 separate occasions to tell me they could reduce my ticket, I'd have to wait 3 hours to have my case heard, I could take the class, I was caught on radar, they couldn't dismiss without the judge hearing it...

They finally came to me and said, "It's dismissed". I got there at 9 and was home by 10:30.

Not too shabby.

I agree Seek....I kinda felt sorry for Kristjan on that God post...

He took it quite well.

But that's good you haven't had one. I'm doing what I gotta do now to get mine rescinded. You shouldn't go to jail at all, or they need to issue you an apology if they do. If you've never had one, then you aren't in a contract with the DOT. Every human being has the right to travel, a license gives you permission to drive....there's a BIG difference. Just don't say a word if they pull you over. If they ask for your ID, shrug. If they ask you your name don't say anything. If they ask you to step out of the car, do so, but be sure to lock the door after you. The only words out of your mouth should be "I do not consent to any unauthorized searches of my vehicle or my person" IF they start acting like they wanna do that. If you get arrested, again shut up. It shouldn't get that far though. Are you reading up on your patriot lit? You need to if you're gonna drive without that bad boy.

message 4: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (randymandy) Please, please, please get video installed in your vehicle! I seriously want to see it when you get arrested. I'm laughing my ass off just READING about it! In a purely supportive way, of course. I'm laughing with you, not AT you. :)

Tim | 21 comments ahahah! Dammit Sparky i just splurted my drink all over the keyboard reading that!

Odds on fer Sparky being the star of the next "Cop Tazer Special" vid on youtube ;)

ps Respect, re message 6.

Good advice Sophie. I tried to argue once with a peeler who said i had gone through a red light (i didnt) - he just said, "wanna come from a ride and go to court?" I didnt and i had someone else in the car with me. So i paid the bastard. Twas in my younger days mind ye. I likely would fuss a bit more now.

message 6: by Molly (new)

Molly (mollyhell) Don't apologize Sparky. I got a lot of fun out of your post.

Anyway Sophia, if I get a ticket again I will beg you for help.

I HATE HIGHWAY PATROL AND I HATE TICKETS.

I also revile with the heat of a thousand suns "car registration".

LOL, Yeah check out Aaron Russo's from Freedom to Fascism! GREAT GREAT movie about that.

Yeah income taxes are illegal. The only reason people pay them is because they have guns, lol.

Income: The earnings made from the sale of a stock.

lol

message 8: by Molly (new)

Molly (mollyhell) And they take your house away if you don't and put you in jail. :/

How magnificent are you, Soph, that you got your tickets dismissed!

message 9: by Tim (new)

Tim | 21 comments Here our tax comes out of our paychecks before we even get our pay :s Is that not the same there? Unless of course getting cash in hand or being self employed.

One company i worked for, when i asked to be paid in cash or even by cheque, told me that i could get paid into my bank (after the gov took the tax) or i could find work elsewhere..

Id love to a) not pay tax, or b) at least be able to choose what part of gov my tax should go towards, or not go towards.

message 10: by Molly (new)

Molly (mollyhell) You can put in a request for exemption, and then you won't pay state and federal taxes (I believe) but they will not stop taking out Social Security and something else... medicare?

message 11: by Rob (new)

Rob (merovigan) I'm weird. I've never gotten a speeding ticket.

I've only ever been pulled over twice; once for an "illegal" u-turn and once for changing lanes without using a blinker. They let me go on both with a warning.

At some point this country was wrestled out of the hands of the people and into the hands of the people who receive and require income tax. If given a say I doubt many Americans would prefer to spend $12 billion a month on Iraq and a few million a month on educating children, but we're not ever given that choice.

What politician could ever get elected saying "I want to legalize marijuana?" And, even if he could get elected, how successful would he be since he'd be the only one.

If "we" are ever going to change this country, it would have to come in one, huge, election. We'd have to not participate in polls, have candidates lined up that just eeked onto ballots, and we'd have to win a sizeable chunk all at once.

It's the only way.

That post kinda went all over the place, lol!

Amanda (randymandy) Geez, Sparky, I'm intrigued now about how you get money to pay for food!!! Or is that something I'd better not ask??? You seem like the wiley type! :)

Seek--yes, it works the same way here. Employers withhold x percent from your paycheck and then remit that amount to the government. The percent they withhold is based on what they anticipate your annual wages to be. On top of that x percent, they withhold for social security and FICA (which is basically just medicare).

As far as the exemptions go, yes you can request one, but depending on how much you make in the year, they might not grant your exemption which means you're going to end up paying all that money to the gov't anyway, just in lump sum format on your 1040 (that's the income tax form individuals have to fill out every year).

blah blah blah. I'm sorry--I'm sick of listening to myself ramble on, so I can only imagine how the rest of you feel! haha

Whatev. I do wish that the government would actually put our tax money to GOOD use instead of wasting it on stupid shit all the time. mutha cluckas...

LOL, I'm listening Amanda! I'm gonna give some homework assignments :-)

message 14: by Molly (new)

Molly (mollyhell) They will never put our money to "good use" because they are criminals who wouldn't know a good use if it bit them. They think hookers is a "good use".

message 15: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (randymandy) What happened in California? Forgive me, I'm sooooo out of the loop these days...

message 16: by Rob (new)

Rob (merovigan) Homeschooling...this, I find, is a topic with two sides.

Side 1: No one should be compelled to shove governtment crap down their kid's throats

Side 2: There are lots of crazies out there and they want to protect their children from a) sight and b) learning

The way I'm tackling this one is to just make a lot of money so I can send my kid to private school. But even that could be an issue since most private schools are religious.

I think that choosing an alternative to public schooling should result in a tax break, myself.

message 17: by Tim (new)

Tim | 21 comments Talking about homeschooling, this was in the news today.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/edu...

An excerpt:

"Teachers told to rewrite history - MoD accused of sending propaganda to schools

Britain's biggest teachers' union has accused the Ministry of Defence of breaking the law over a lesson plan drawn up to teach pupils about the Iraq war. The National Union of Teachers claims it breaches the 1996 Education Act, which aims to ensure all political issues are treated in a balanced way.

Teachers will threaten to boycott military involvement in schools at the union's annual conference next weekend, claiming the lesson plan is a "propaganda" exercise and makes no mention of any civilian casualties as a result of the war.

They believe the instructions, designed for use during classroom discussions in general studies or personal, social and health education (PSE) lessons, are arguably an attempt to rewrite the history of the Iraq invasion just as the world prepares to mark its fifth anniversary. "
----

impo "education" in schools is mostly simply a vessel for preparing someone to enter capitalistic society and be a good little automaton.

If i had kids i would homeschool them (and ensure they had quality social interaction in addition)

Amanda (randymandy) ROB!!!!!! You have inspired my gears to turn, my friend...

My friends and I joke about forming the Church of Athiest Churchgoers so we can get tax breaks for cool shit. And on an unrelated note, I've always said that one day (when I get rich), I want to open a magnet-type school with all kinds of way cool alternative teaching methods, etc, etc. But with your clever comment about about private school, I really think THAT is the way to go...

My thinking cap is on tight. It could work...

message 19: by Bliss (new)

Bliss (blissreads) | 9 comments i've never gotten a speeding ticket either...

so how can a sista get a break on a parking ticket in this town?!

i've got another 3 weeks before it doubles.

we home school.

for many reasons but mostly cuz it makes sense to me that my kid gets the 10-13 hours of daily sleep the doc said children her age need.

WOW Bliss!! That is so cool! And you're right, I hate seeing kids up at 5am in the cold at the bus stop....

well...I don't actually see them, but I was one lol.

About the Parking ticket, you can write on it "Accepted for Value" and send it back to them, lol.

I wouldn't do that until you read a little more though, just pay it and study up on who you really are, my friend. Then if you decide you don't want to have the "benefit privilege" of receiving parking tickets and stuff, then you can do things that back you up when you wanna get in their face about it.
