Annette Mckitrick | 29 comments A very easy to read book, well written and a page turner.
As I was accessioning this book I read the first page and I couldn't put it down. I wish all authors had the skill of drawing you in on page one.
Three days after Clarry is born her mother dies, leaving her three year old brother Peter devastated and her father filled with grief that causes him to shut down.
Over a period of twenty years we follow this family full of delightful characters facing life, loss, grief and war. We read how the family is directly affected by the First World War, without reading all the horrors of war.
Thanks to a granny, summer holidays by the sea and a fun-loving cousin their lives have more highs than lows.
A great follow-on book for the student who has read and loved 'The War That Saved my Life' and sequel 'The War I Finally Won' by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley.

Marianne Dobie | 49 comments I enjoyed this book, too. The author never lets the reader give up hope.
