Hmmm.... in hindsight, it might not have been the best course of action. She could have transferred to e-crimes and tracked Trask with all of the resources of the FBI behind her. On the other hand, Merritt was obviously out to get her at the time, so perhaps her decision was the right one.
I would have liked to see her stay and fight, but I understand her reasons for running. When an op goes so wrong, it takes everything just to survive and live. She needed to rebuild herself and start her own crusade to bring down Trask.
I agree that Merritt would never have let her walk after what happened. He would have had her in prison. Hiding was her only way to continue hunting Trask. I also feel that she needed that time alone.
Given Merritt’s energy for not only wanting to end her career but put her in jail, I’m thinking she probably did the right thing because she had no one in her corner, at that level, to advocate for her. The threat of being behind bars would have scared me, too.
I agree, Kate had no one supporting her, advocating for her. They were looking for a scape goat and she made a great target.
