I'm behind on the plan. I read the first chapter on the 2nd but after that I wasn't so eager to pick it up.
I can feel that this is the author's first book because of the writing, it's somehow to simple but that also made me go faster through the shorter chapters.
So far I read only 6 chapters. The characters seem okay, still don't have a favorite.

Same. This is one of my most anticipated reads for the year!
I’m conflicted getting into it though; I’ve heard mixed reviews and I just really want to enjoy it.

I heard a lot of mixed reviews as well, just tune them all out! I'm excited to hear your thoughts

Maybe the writing of this book isn't the best, but I can see the scenes clearly in my mind. It reminds me of a dorama or anime, and I won't complain :p
I've just read two chapters but I'm enjoying this so far!

yay!!
I haven't read it in a few days, I have about half more to go. Yes, the writing isn't the best, it's simplistic but since it's her first book understandable. I'm not wowed by it, but I like it well enough.

i thought it was slow going at first but about halfway through i was hooked and the further the story went, the more in love i became with all the characters and i'm soooo happy this is going to be a series!!!

I so agree with the start being slowish. The end really picked up compared to the beginning. But I think there were so many unanswered questions I had and it just became confusing because of that.

I finished yesterday! I liked a lot the good vibes of the book, even if there was something wrong they always overcame it with a non-toxic way. Even if it was fantasy, all their problems were so real, so maybe it's not the best book to read if you really want a fantasy world and fantasy/kingdom problems.
But I enjoyed it a lot because I could see all the scenes perfectly in my mind.
Also I LOVED all the characters. I usually prefer standalone books, but if I can see them all on the second part I won't complain at all.

I'm so happy you liked it!

just sharing: but I'm already so excited for the cover of the sequel even though I haven't read this book yet because I can't imagine what it's going to be XD I really hope it's as gorgeous as this one

me too!!! the illustrated aspect is so beautiful up close, definitely a favorite cover of mine!
I was bad at reading this, I haven't read it in a quite some time but since I plan to finish it by the end of the month I picked it up again.
I'm so shocked with the ending of chapter 56 (view spoiler) I sooo wasn't expecting that, I haven't seen hints of it through out the book.

I finally finished this and only a day after the schedule woohoo. And because of that I'm not going to put any spoiler tags, so if by any chance you haven't read the book but plan on doing it and are reading this... you should probably stop.
The end does pick up, so many things happen and i'm not sure if that's the okay amount of things or if maybe there was too much.
• I didn't expect Halmeoni to die. I was honestly believing Miyoung will save her somehow, I blame it on the writing stile that lulled me into believing nothing too bad'll happen.
• The detective being Miyoung's father was such a surprise for me. I really wasn't expecting that to be part of the plot. It's a shame he turned out to be a dick.
• Even thought Yena was portrayed as bad person from the beginning I was pretty much sure she isn't really like that. And I was right about thinking she doesn't have a bead; I mean why would she be so angry about Miyoung asking about it if it wasn't something more personal.
• The last chapter was a nice closing and the epilogue does give something for the second adventure. However I'm not that interested in what's going to happen next.

I agree with you on Halmeoni’s death. I feel like it could have been done better. I mean, all we get of her death is just Jihoon finding out through a phone call. Since she’s such a major character in Jihoon’s life I would have expected a more emotional sendoff. I didn’t see the detective twist either. I thought he was going to be a nice father figure for Jihoon. As for Yena, her character was interesting. I could tell that she loved Miyoung, but she didn’t express that in a healthy way.
A lot of things do happen at the end of the book. However, I began to feel like the story started to drag a little when Miyoung came back to help Jihoon’s halmeoni. They were just mad at each other and nothing seemed to get solved for chapters. Also, I was pretty frustrated when Jihoon refused Miyoung’s help. Like?? Your halmeoni’s life is on the line and you don’t let the only person who can potentially save her help because yOu’Re UPsEt??
I really liked the book, but I don’t really think that it needs a direct sequel. In my mind this story works well as a standalone, but that might change when the next one comes out.

Her death could've been done so much better. I too thought the detective is going to be a father figure for Jihoon and Somin, but then the twist... then it was discovered that he controlled Yena and wanted to rid the world of demons which was a bit oooooookay he's crazy.
Jihoon thinking over Miyoung's offer was stupid, like there's no one else that could help you and it's your halmeoni there's nothing to think over.
Yeah the sequel doesn't feel necessary because it had a nicely tied ending.

Yeah, the ending definitely feels like an ending. If anything, I want the sequel to tie up some plot holes. It never really said how Miyoung survived without her bead or what happened to Nora and her grandmother.
