Annie's character thoroughly disgusted me, from the dried-up eggs on the corner to how she drank the Pepsi. I can't recall any time I out loud said "ew" about a fictional character.
Because this was written in the 80s, I thought a lot of it would be predictable. I found that wasn't the case at all! It was so suspenseful that I forgot Paul had hidden the lighter fluid under a floorboard.
I even thought Annie had gotten away.
Very happy with this choice of book! Will be watching the movie adaptation soon.
