I used to read a lot of short stories and did buy the Best American Short Story Mysteries 2013 for $2.50. I still haven't read 2012 so I have some catching up to do. Should be a good topic to get into since this can be wide open.

Stephen Kinghas put out some excellent short story collections. Amongst them is Four Past Midnight: [book:Gray Matter and Other Stories from Night Shift,Minuit 4,Nightmares and Dreamscapes,Different Seasons.I can remember having to study short stories in high school English classes - and they always seemed so pointless. I have recently rediscovered the short story and am enjoying them. The Walk and Other Short Stories by Angelo Marcosis a great collection.
I went through the same thing and took some adult education classes where we read John Cheever and Raymond Carver. I still prefer the mystery ones more although I liked short stories by Russell Banks. Lobster Night was one of my favorites.
I am not familiar with Russell Banks Ron, so will have to look him up. Thanks for the suggestion. 8:D
Have to start reading the Best American Stories and comment on them here.
