Discussion on Dean Koontz novels!

Hi! I read Koontz's novels a long time ago, back in high school, so you know how loooooong ago that was! LOL! I hadn't heard of the Odd Thomas series...once I get done with Dragonfly and the first Game of Thrones I may have to check it out!
He's been writing for quite some time, so one thing I read about us the differences between his first books and now, and it's usually not a positive. Although the odd Thomas series was met with much acclaim. I also started reading Koontz in high school. Does that mean his books are easy to read as YA? Just questions for discussions :)
They were horror books in the style of Stephen King and I read them in conjunction, with The Stand and VC Andrews, Flowers in the Attic and such. I enjoyed them, I haven't read any of his new stuff.
I read everything that you listed and I still read Stephen King on occasion but not VC Andrews as much, I really only like her Flowers in the Attic series, the rest of her books I tried to read were a bit too formulatic for me, which is odd because the same could be said about Danielle Steele, Koontz, and & King.
I dislike formulaic books, that is why when I was little and everyone said I should read Nancy Drew, I think I made about three then they were all the same. Stephen King got to be that way too, substitute a runaway truck, car, hearse, rabid dog, hitchhiker and they are the same. Takes away from 'writing a good story'. I think the earlier Koontz books did that to. Think that is what put me off horror books in general.
I also haven't read Dean Koontz in awhile because some did come off as formulaic but I like the Odd Thomas series very much, maybe it's because I like the character so much.
I would agree about the Nancy Drew series and yet at the same time, I wonder that as readers, do we put too much pressure on writers when it comes to their work when it feels formulaic to us? What if that is the only genre they can write about, not everyone can easily go across genres.
Also even if it is a writer who has a single style, do we expect that style to get better? Or to stick with what they know?

I agree with stephen king not being exactly cookie cutter or in the same vein as other authors. Although he is frequently lump in with the bestsellers writers that seem to pump out books every few months. I remember reading IT years ago and then reading rose madder and misery and just being enamored. I really like the odd thomas series from koontz. I havent read the good guy yet but i will have to take a look at it. Any other thoughts on Koontz or the other best sellers writers?

So my questions are:
does anyone read dean koontz? If so, is he on par with the other best selling authors that seem to be forever on the list?
Does anyone find his work scripted?
Does anyone like that his books feel scripted or it is just his writing style?
I am enjoying the odd Thomas series very much so! I also love the movie. Comments are welcome!
