Having read over one hundred Dragonlance novels I have delved deep into side stories, and characters outside the core novels. Some are good others... not so much. Some of the authors appear to have put a great effort into weaving their tales into the known world while others have not.
My two favorite side novels are Kang's regiment, and Tales of Uncle Trapsringer (laugh if you want). Both are kind of a strange. Kang's regiment had me cross referencing places, and timelines a bit. There were some off balance elements but overall it was a great read. Tales of Uncle Trapspringer was written as sort of a 'take it or leave it sanctioned fan fiction'. Do books after these novels need be careful to not break continuity with what they detailed? What about other novels?
