Blue | 825 comments Another one for my friend. He really needs to just join GR =)

So this was set in either WWI or WWII it was a MM romance.

It had a HEA and there wasn't a lot of angst in regards to their relationship more angst about the war.

Not sure but thinks it was written by a Brit, Aussie or Kiwi

Read it about 5 years ago maybe, but thinks it may have been older than that.

EDIT: cover green with a man wearing a coat on it.

Title has "road in it"

Possibly The Charioteer.

Blue | 825 comments I will ask him if that is it. Thanks.

message 4: by Blue (new) - added it

Blue | 825 comments It was the not the right book. He enjoyed The Charioteer though and thanks you for the rec.

He thinks the cover may be green or grey if that helps any.

Rainbowheart | 29179 comments Wingmen?

The Absolutist?

Was this a physical book or an e-book?

Sarah Rigg | 30 comments It sounds like it could be one of Pat Barker's books. She writes about World War I and the "shell shock" that soldiers go through, and there is M/M romance in them.

"Regeneration" is the first in the series:

#2 is "The Eye in the Door:

Blue | 825 comments I will ask him. Thanks.

Blue | 825 comments So it was neither of those, but again he thanks you for my great books that have a similar theme.

Holly (lisitsa) | 61 comments Have him look at m/m in a time of war list?

message 10: by Blue (new) - added it

Blue | 825 comments It isn't on that list but he did find another book he was searching for so that was helpful.

His other book was The Lie

He now tells me that one of the men was German and there was a woman and a child.

It flashes between future, past and sort of in-between.

Rainbowheart | 29179 comments Did your friend read this as a physical book?

message 12: by Blue (new) - added it

Blue | 825 comments Yes. A hardback.

Holly (lisitsa) | 61 comments I’m doing a quick look through looking for anything that jumps out as world war related but here’s a gay historical fiction list

Blue | 825 comments He remembers more about the cover.

There is a man wearing a coat on it holding a letter, he is seen from the back.

It is definitely WWII.

The cover is dark green with like mist or something on it.

Holly (lisitsa) | 61 comments Probably not it but this one was published as a physical book in 2013, is WWII based, has an American and a German, and has tons of flashbacks.

Lovers in Arms

Blue | 825 comments No that it isn't it.

I think it was publisher by a big publishing house if that helps any.

message 17: by Rainbowheart (new) - added it

Rainbowheart | 29179 comments Strange Meeting?

More homoerotic subtext than actual romance, though. If this was pubbed as a hardcover by a major publisher, then it's not a m/m genre romance. Should make it easier to find.

That isn't the correct book either but sounds interesting.

Fried says the title has road in it, he thinks.

Blue | 825 comments I typed out the last comment and suddenly a title popped into my head and I think I figured it out. Will have to check but pretty sure it is:

The Road Between Us

Blue | 825 comments It was the right book and it was published by Doubleday which is a big publisher.

message 22: by Rainbowheart (new) - added it

Rainbowheart | 29179 comments Yay, glad you found it!

message 23: by Blue (new) - added it

Blue | 825 comments He was almost correct about the cover. Except the man is seen from the front not the back.

He was driving me nuts so I'm glad it suddenly clicked.

thanks for all the help and suggestions. He now has a larger reading list =)
