So excited! Heard great things about it

Someone compared it to The Book of Lost Things which is one of my favourites if all time

I have watched the movie based on it and from then I added it to TBR shelf. The movie was great and made me emotional. I have great expectations from this.

This does sound like an emotional book. Hope it meets our expectations!

Excited to start this. I have to get back to uni again for some task so I don't know if I'll be able to to get to this today

Sorry I haven't updated on this. I finished it and really liked it. I'm gonna discuss some spoilers later - I've had a stressful couple of days what with reading challenges and all

Finally finished it. I would have completed it earlier if I haven't given my time to binge watching series on Netflix but finally I did.
Loved the book.
(view spoiler)[It was very fantastic and depressing story. I just completed it and I am feeling kinda sad. I loved some quotes from these books. Those quotes perfectly defines humanity. I felt very very very sad for Conner and his mom. I disliked his grandma in early chapters but I understood her character and knew this was the way of her showing care. The monster's tales were amazing especially which got Harry transported to hospital😜(I know I shouldn't feel like this but he was really a butt. He was a complicated bully. His companions were typical bully but he was something else. He was hurting Connor more mentally than physically ) I didn't like Conner's father( and her other wife who can't even let him stay by his dying first wife to support his child.) I know how Conner have felt when everybody started sympathizing him.I know they don't do that intentionally but it really increases the pain. Lily's note was endearing. At last she understood why Conner was unhappy with her. I think I would have enjoyed one or two chapter describing the aftermath of the Conner's mother's death.

Did I mentioned I am feeling very depressed now. Just hoping not to have any emotional nightmares. Good Night! (hide spoiler)]

Yes, the last couple of chapters were really intense and sad. At the last line I almost teared up

I totally agree with you on Harry's character! (view spoiler)[ it was so cool seeing a complex bully. He was clever enough to work out Conor wanted to be hit and punished. So he didn't. That's how he made him suffer - by treating him as someone invisible

I didn't quite like how the scene got so violent though. Even though it was the monster who hit Harry, technically Conor was telling it to and it was Conor's own rage that made the monster do it. It's interesting 'cause that shows the monster is also metaphorically representing Conor's demons. His rage, his turmoil. So cool

I liked the stories too! So interesting and so true. Most humans aren't good or bad, they're a mix of both.

Yeah, his dad was pretty unsympathetic. I liked what he said, though, that not all stories have happy endings. And about Conor's mum it turned out to be true (hide spoiler)]

I can also see how dark this book was. (view spoiler)[ Conor's secret - that he didn't want his mum to go but at the same time also wanted it to be over...and as I said, the nightmare scene where the monster makes him confess this is so intense and heart breaking (hide spoiler)]

Oh, Akash, I hope you feel better soon! This really was a sad, sad book. Hope you had good sleep!

Haha. I had a good sleep. I can sympathize Connor on wanting it to be over( and also not wanting it to be over. Complex human psychology.) he felt it would have been better if it would be quick rather than waiting for the blow.

I am also going to watch this movie again tomorrow. It's now a tradition for me to read a book first then watch the movie. (Have you watched Coraline movie. It was good with some minor changes in the plot)

Also notify me when your exams would be over to complete the darker shade of magic series. Now I must need to pick up chemistry and physics to read and saying goodbye to reading for a month.

Great, Akash. I'll watch both the films sometime when I get the chance...I'm not very good at getting around to watching movies 😅

I'll let you know..I struggle with keeping up reading during classes so I'll only get to Clash of Kings this month, I think. And then have exams in the second half of October. It'll probably be in early November that I'll be able to read a bit. Hopefully. I'll let you know then 😊
