Diane | 13052 comments Post your nominations here for the September group reads. A significant portion of the book must be set in the featured location. We will be reading a selection set in Sierra Leone, a translated book from a Southern European female writer, and a memoir from a writer from South America.

Sierra Leone*:
Nominate a book set in Sierra Leone.
Sierra Leone Book List: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Sierra Leone Bookshelf: https://www.goodreads.com/group/books...

Women in Translation
Nominate a translated book from a female European author written in a Southern European language. Examples of some of the more common Southern European languages include Albanian, Aranese, Aromanian, Asturian, Basque, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Catalan, Croatian, Cypriot Arabic, Cypriot Turkish, Galician, Greek, Italian, Latin, Macedonian, Maltese, Montenegrin, Occitan, Portuguese (European only), Romani, Romanian, Serbian, Slovene, Spanish (European/Castilian only), and Turkish.

World Memoirs
Nominate a memoir or autobiography from one of the following countries in continental South America: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, and Venezuela. The book must be a non-fiction memoir and set in one of these countries/regions.

For a list of books we have read in previous months, click here: Previously Read Group Read Books

*For our featured world country selection (this month it is Sierra Leone): If the book selected by popular vote is not written by a native or resident author of at least 1 year, the book written by a native/resident author with the highest votes will also be selected, resulting in two book selections for that country.

For Women in Translation, I nominate A Stranger's Supper: An Oral History of Centenarian Women in Montenegro by Zorka Milich. Although written in English, the 30 interviews of very old women were most likely in Montegrin or Serbian which the author spoke.

For World Memoirs, I nominate Living Poor by Moritz Thomsen.

George P. | 116 comments For Women in translation, I was going to nominate The Museum of Unconditional Surrender by Dubravka Ugrešić of Croatia/ Yugoslavia, but as I see we have another of her novels nominated by Laurie, ("Fox") I'll second that.
I would also like to read Laurie's other nominee, The Memory of Love.
For South American memoir, I'll nominate The Motorcycle Diaries: Notes on a Latin American Journey by Ernesto "Che" Guevara.

Unfortunately, we won't be able to use The Motorcycle Diaries since it was a previous BOTM.
