Awesome! I haven't participated in the Book Club since after The Night Circus because I couldn't find the books in bookstores, but I've definitely seen this one :D
Finally a book that I haven't read and am interested in reading :D but I've ban myself from buying books because i have 15 to read (and I only have a little shelf to put them on) oh dear...what to do?!

I read this a couple of years ago, must admit it took me a LONG time to get into, I only started to like it at the end.
can't wait to read this have been wanting to for a bit... now i have an excuse... plus it'll get me back into the book club :D yaay :P
I didn't particularly like it when I read it, but I'm scrolling through Netflix and THERE'S A MOVIE. Why in all my years of Hopefulling did I not hear about this before.
Just bought my book. I have some catching up to do, but looking forward to anything but Thomas Mann (currently reading).
I'm trying to make a point of reading two chapters each day (along with the one from C.S. Lewis' The Four Loves I'm also reading). So far I have read two chapters. I have to be honest in saying that I am not crazy about the characters based on their introduction. The first scene is of them sleeping with each other, yet neither knowing who the other is and the guy not having any desire to stick around after he gets what he wants? Wow. Lovely, shallow individual, isn't he? Her description doesn't fair much better. I am REALLY hoping that their characters develop to be so much more than what they presently are.
I don't own a copy of this book, but my mam read it about a year ago and (hopefully still) has it on her kindle, might have to steal it to give it a read haha Always wanted to read it but never got around to it, now I have an excuse

If she doesn't have it, kindle usually saves a copy in case you wanna look for it again!
I'm on page 325 as of today. It's a bit like watching a train wreck. I don't want to watch, but for whatever reason I can't seem to avert my eyes. I keep hoping for some sort of redemption.
Finished it. It ended up not being as bad as I thought it would be. Not great, but not horrid. If anything I will say that it gave an appreciation for loving the people who are in my life now, cherishing the time I have with them.
Heather: I felt the same way, but I felt the last chapter was actually quite redeeming. I didn't feel like Dexters alcohol problem was very well addressed :/
I didn't really like this book because I didn't like the characters. I feel like Dexter was selfish and took Emma for granted throughout the whole book. Emma was so negative about herself and her life. The story did keep me interested enough to finish the book but it was not one of my favorites.
Jen, that's pretty much how I felt. Neither character had qualities that made me enjoy their company. Like, Darby, I felt there was a bit of redemption in the end, however Dex had so many addiction issues that were never addressed. The movie altered the characters in that Dex was able to get his life back together after his marriage and birth of his daughter. It was only after Emma's accident that you felt sorry for him when he slips into a drunken stint after she dies. They left out the part that Dex was beyond drunk when taking care of his daughter, or that his "grief" drinking took him to several bars, the last ending at a strip club. After thinking about it, I don't think Emma and Dex would have lasted as a married couple had she lived. His addictions and her negativity would have eventually created a wedge between them.
Heather, Yes that's exactly how I felt. You are right, I doubt their marriage would have lasted if she was alive. I never saw the movie- I will have to now that I finished the book!
