After a 7-month hiatus for the 2019 Parasolverse Read-Along, the Coop de Book Group returns!!

First up as August 2019's Coop de Book is Gail's own Reticence, the final installment in the Custard Protocol series! For more information about the book, click the cover above.

After you've read it, return here to discuss your thoughts! What did you think of Arsenic? Who was your favorite cameo, in person or mentioned in passing? Who enjoyed the surprise third POV? And who like me would absolutely read The Further Adventures of the Custard Protocol, show of hands? ;)

As always, please open your comment with where in the book you are (either finished or the page/chapter you're on) in case someone isn't that far yet so they can avoid possible spoilers, thank you!

Tami | 12 comments Wow...it just arrived and the first 3 words of the first real paragraph and we know the mystery person! I expected more mystery, thank you for not making us wait to figure it out! Off to finish the paragraph. Lol

Actually Arsenic is the 2nd POV after anticipated Percy. There's another... ;) But isn't Arsenic such fun? I was totally in love by the end of the first paragraph!

Shirley Thomas | 14 comments I just finished the book, and all I’m gonna say is that I’m Overwhelmed (but in a good way). Is there a particular date/period of time for cookie guessing?

...Cookie guessing...?

For those who have finished, a Very Important Question:

Where was Soap? Was he in attendance and I just missed him? Or was there something in a previous book I'm failing to recall that explains his absence? He was the one I was most excited to see and I didn't see him! :'(

Shirley Thomas | 14 comments Gail calls all the details readers might notice cookies, so I just used it there without thinking about it.

I don't remember seeing him mentioned, but also I plan on rereading it again soon

Ah right I knew I should've known that lol my bad. It is a Gail group so always feel free to use her terms! I'll just apologize in advance if my horrible memory needs occasional jogging. ;)

I'm sure enough people have devoured Reticence by now, so let the cookie guessing begin! :)

Pretty sure Soap is the Kingair Beta at this point, so he should've been at the wedding but wasn't named or described. I could be wrong though. Does anyone else remember?

Melissa (veruna) | 49 comments Finished. Mild Spoilers within.

Oh man, this book was amazing! But I cried at the end. I can't believe it's over! I know we'll still get to see them in the novellas, but I'm heartsick that we won't get a new series any time soon in the Parasolverse.

I absolutely adored seeing all our old friends. I squeed so hard when the twins called her Aunt Softy! I've always hoped my darling Sophronia was able to be continuously involved in their lives, and it was wonderful to see her meddling ways have yet to be tamed.

Also, Arsenic and Percy and probably my favorite pairing now. I so wish to see him explain the spidery eyelashes thought to her!

Everything about your comment is how I feel. I'm sad to see it go. I need the next novellas now. My heart can't take the absence.

Nicqui | 125 comments I kinda don't know what to do with myself now... what to read next?

Aaron | 2 comments This is my favorite book of the three series. (view spoiler)

Ah I didn't catch that before! I wonder if that means Aunt Softy now lives with the Kingair pack, or if over time she and Soap drifted apart? I hope the former.

Nicqui | 125 comments I think Lyall mentioned it in Romancing the Werewolf that Phineas, as his replacement, was a born Beta and would fit in with Kingair and Lady Kingair based on who his lady is, even mentioned Sophronia as The Wicker Chicken. So it's safe to assume Sophronia lives in Scotland now with Soap and Kingair.

Melissa (veruna) | 49 comments Which is perfect. She can meddle from Scotland and keep in contact with their (most likely full repaired and upgraded) aetheroscope! And Sophronia and Sidheag would both have a fried who knows them very well. I'd think that would be restful for Sophronia after so many years of spying and hiding.

And can you just imagine how capable a beta Soap would make? He'd be as good as Lyall!

Nicqui | 125 comments I agree completely. And their previous friendship would mean that Sidheag would be receptive to his Beta'ing. I would love to see a scene or short story of the three of them having adventures and antics in Scotland.

Yess! 100% need this in my life!!

Melanie | 3 comments I thought that too. They did make mention of Soap being the Kingair Beta and I was surprised he wasn't mentioned at the wedding too.

Melanie | 3 comments That would be awesome!

Therese | 1 comments Oo oo oh! I'm pretty sure I spotted Manifest Destiny! But favourite cameo was aunt Softy of course. she's my favourite of all the characters.

I really liked this book and both Arsenic and Percy. Percy becomes a lot more real in this book I think.

Would love to read more Parasolverse, soon.
