I am auditing a class on Creative Non Fiction by the southern writer Joni Tevis. I don't read a lot of non-fiction of this variety. Do you have any southern favorites?

I will never forget The Mind of the South by W.J. Cash--in fact, I would like to reread it. Yes, it's old. But I grew up in Alabama. And I have read few writers with the grasp on the culture like Cash's. It's profound.
Harry Crews wrote a series of columns for Esquire Magazine for years. I would recommend you check them out. Also, Somebody Told Me: The Newspaper Stories of Rick Bragg. Hal Crowther, see:http://www.dukechronicle.com/articles... . See also: Why Dixie Turned Right, http://www.nashvillescene.com/nashvil... : about Where We Stand: Voices of Southern Dissent which compared the Bush administration to the Governorship of George Wallace. For humor, you can't beat Roy Blount Jr..
