Yesterday, at 4:30 I sat down in the theater near me and expected to see one of the best movies ever created in the history of best movies... and for all I know it could have been but I was too preoccupied picking apart the differences between the book and the movie... OR it could have been the worst movie ever but I was too busy loving it that I couldn't tell. Honestly, I'm kind of confused about my feelings towards this movie... because it wasn't a bad movie it was actually quite good, but there were soooooo many differences between the book and the movie that I found myself not understanding the whole plot line because I was waiting for things to happen that never happened in the movie(but they did happen in the book!). So to show you a little bit of what I'm talking about, I will show you all of the things (that I can remember) that were different in the movie: 1. Alby dies too early... he was supposed to sacrifice himself during their escape. 2. Instead of the grievers taking one person per night once the walls were open, they just had one big raid in which half of the gladers died including Alby... but not Gally... what? 3. Gally just randomly appears in the WCKD headquarters after we saw him alive and well in the Glade five minutes ago, NO! HE WAS SUPPOSED TO GET KILLED BY A GRIEVER FIRST! 4. They got rescued in a helicopter but in the book they got rescued in a bus and ran over a crank. 5. The whole order in which Teresa comes and Alby gets stung is just wrong... 6. Ben was banished by these spear thingies where in the book he was banished with the collar thingy. 7. In the movie the hole of escape was like this weird metal contraption but in the book it was just an invisible hole in the sky. 8. In the movie they didn't lay all the maps on top of each other to find the words, instead it was a series of numbers that showed to order of the maze. 9. Okay... this part really confused me so I am sorry if I confuse you in the process of telling you what I mean... in the movie, Chancellor Paige makes a video showing the gladers everything that happened... and then in the video she faked her own death and there was like a war zone in the background so when the gladers got there there we already a bunch of dead bodies there... 10. THERE ARE SO MANY MORE THAT I CANNOT THINK OF AT THE MOMENT BUT WHEN I DO I WILL POST THEM! That being said... I don't know why but I actually quite enjoyed this movie... and besides the the massive changes, all in all I would watch it again today if I didn't have to pay for it. But I might go back on closing night to see it one more time.
The book is almost ALWAYS better than the movie other than those books that are just so bad that nothing, not even the movie, could possibly be worse:) And then there are those few movies that just really do an amazing book justice! but yeah... the book almost always wins!
