This book starts on the premise that no good deed goes unpunished. Captain Pausert’s life was on the way up. He had taken his battered starship, the Venture, and successfully sold off an odd-ball cargo. Then he made the mistake of buying the freedom of three slave child from their masters. Grant you, the masters were eager to sell them. How was he supposed to know that they were three of the Witches of Karres. Now he's on the run, with Goth the middle child, keeping an eye on him.

I found the often tongue in cheek nature of the book appealing. I have always found stories with children who can talk about things (like how the universe works) with intelligence that leaves the adult looking silly appealing. What did everyone else think?.
