Personally, I've signed up for a MOOC course with a reading list that includes Dracula, Frankenstein, and The Invisible Man, as well as some short stories/poetry by Edgar Allan Poe and Nathaniel Hawthorne. So I've got my genre all lined up. :D
Renee wrote: "I really enjoyed Jane Slayre, Amber. :)"Awesome Renee! I got it at Big Lots on clearance for 30 cents so can't wait to check it out next month.
FrankensteinThe Picture of Dorian Gray
Dracula
The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness; READ 10/14
For Readathon: (the suggestions from Aitziber)
The Body
Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption: A Story from Different Seasons
The Pit and the Pendulum
The Tell-Tale Heart
The Turn of the Screw
The Yellow Wallpaper actually read in July
Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?
A Good Man Is Hard To Find
The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories
And two more:
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow
The Invisible Man
And:
The Haunting of Hill House
Jekyll and Hyde was really different to what I expected! But in a good way!
Frustratingly, none of my set texts really evolve around Horror. Regardless, I will post a very small list, that hopefully I can fit in around my Uni reading!
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow - read 2/10
The Turn of the Screw - read 2/10
Dracula
I guess this would the perfect time to read a Stephen King. But they're all so long :'(

If I have time I'll turn off the lights and read this ones:The Invisible Man
Fahrenheit 451
Rage
Frankenstein
Mile 81
I've started Dracula and you can hear the eerie music as Jonathan Harker's carriage climbs into the Carpathian Mountains.
I'm going to read The Invisible Man by HG Wells - does that count? Horror is not a genre I would usually read so found it really difficult to decide. I've already read Dracula, Frankenstein etc.
Natalie wrote: "I'm going to read The Invisible Man by HG Wells - does that count? Horror is not a genre I would usually read so found it really difficult to decide. I've already read Dracula, Frankenstein etc."Natalie, I have it on my to-read for this month also. Let me know how you like it.
H. G. Wells's Invisible Man totally counts as Horror. I think horror is about what scares you, not just blood and gore.
Just finished The Invisible Man. Didn't get on with it too well, disliked the style of writing but it picked up towards the end. My friend just sent me a further list of horror recommendations so since I have a bit more free time than usual I'll try another horror read. I'm not sure what yet though!
She recommended:Edgar Allen Poe short story collection
Ray Bradbury - Something Wicked This Way Comes
Stephen King - Christine
Will Elliot - Pilo Family Circus
Mark Z Danielewski - House of Leaves
Sorry I can't link to book/author on the app!
She also reminded me that I wanted to read Cujo by Stephen King too. I haven't been very good with the genre challenge all this year so perhaps this is my chance to turn it around!
I'll definitely check some of those out!
And don't forget, the genre challenge is just an option extra, no need to commit fully. But perhaps this will be your month!
Out of interest, has anyone read The Castle of Otranto? Really struggling to get into it...

I read it at uni... I can't remember anything except the falling helmet at the beginning... which probably doesn't help you, but doesn't say much for it either.
Read Dark Places by Gillian Flynn. It's my favorite Flynn novel and it is a dark/thriller, but fits the Horror theme. Highly recommend for people who want a chill and like a bitchy character. :D
Finished Dracula. (Unexpectedly Awesome, BTW!) now off to Frankenstein, Poe, and Hawthorne's Twice Told Tales!
Renee, I'm with you! Loving it!!! Now that the library books are back at the library, I can now give Dracula and The Charioteer my attention and both books are so beautifully written.
Holly, I loved your review! Now I just have to quit chatting and get back to Dracula before my household gets noisy with teenagers.
I'm reading Don't Look Now, Selected Stories by Daphne Du Maurier. It's the New York Review Books Classic edition and includes The Birds. I highly recommend!
