Me neither. Hopefully, it will be available on DVD. The library comes in handy for renting TV shows that I don’t subscribe to the service.

Kandice | 4387 comments I also rely on the library for shows on channels to which I don't subscribe. It's maddening to wait, but better than missing out.

That's what I did with Mr. Mercedes season one.

Me too. I am on hold for season 2 at the library.

I should probably do that. It is available to hold, the libraries who will have it are acquiring the DVD but I'm sure there is already a wait.

Kandice | 4387 comments While I am super excited for this and love both Moore and Owens, I am also a little worried because in my opinion, it's King's more paranormal stuff that leads to goofy adaptations. This one is very, very out there, but one of my very favorites, so I will watch with some reservation.

Erin (ems84) | 2679 comments I agree, I think it's still worth a try but I'd go into it with mixed feelings.

King himself has said that novellas lend themselves best to movie adaptations, and this is a dense, longish novel, so I think at least a mini-series is needed to do it justice.

I think it depends on the focus. If they focus on the thriller parts of the story we could have a along and excellent series. If they put too much emphasis on the supernatural elements it could get weird. Still the cast is sure capable of doing the story justice.

Funny tidbit, but as I read this book I imagined the Long Boy with the Piebald Side to look like Falcor from The Neverending Story, but piebald (of course!) and... menacing.

Misty | 31 comments I loved this book, and I am kind of excited for the series. I don't know if I'll be able to see it when it comes out yet though. Boo. After the latest version of The Stand, I'm not as excited as I would have been. I'm a little nervous that they're going to ruin the story. I still want to see it though.

Thank you! I don't have Apple TV, so will have to watch another way, but this is in my top five King books of all time, so I can't wait!

Erin (ems84) | 2679 comments Yes, same here. I don't have Apple TV but I plan to find another way to watch it.

Sounds good. I actually have a year free of Apple TV+

Kandice | 4387 comments Erin wrote: "Has anyone tried this out yet? It premiered today."

This is one of my favorite books, so I am bummed not to have Apple TV, but I am hoping, once it's all released, that I can do a free trial.

Erin (ems84) | 2679 comments I tried it out, I was pretty disappointed in it. It's visually stunning but the story is a muddled mess.

Linda (beaulieulinda117gmailcom) | 1115 comments I agree Erin. It was really hard keeping track of the story but then I was distracted with everyone being home.

Blair_Cait | 4 comments I'm also finding it pretty all over the place... it all feels like messy and random

message 27: by Nick (new) - rated it 5 stars

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments The show is beautiful photographed, most of the casting is good (though I don't care for the bad guy.) Julianna is excellent, but everyone is right, the story is muddled, and King (who wrote the script) seems to be trying to show that he can do some avant guard storytelling by presenting everything as random flashbacks. (totally out of order). The beautiful romance of the novel is reduced to a few brief scenes of the couple staring into each other's eyes. Even the one romantic wedding day flashback has somber overtones. In fact too somber is the essence of my criticism. It's not horrible... just not as good as it should be.

Erin (ems84) | 2679 comments It shocked me how disappointing it was considering King wrote the script. It has a very big "art house" vibe to it that isn't necessary.

Yes good term... art house vibe.

Kellie | 106 comments I have watched the first two episodes and I am actually quite enjoying it. I literally just finished reading the novel and I am finding it easy to follow. Maybe because it is fresh in my mind. You can tell between the memories and the present day and they have added a lot of detail from the book. There is a few little changes but nothing big to complain about. I thought this would be difficult to translate to screen and so far I think they have done a good job. It is beautifully shot and the colour themes. Definitely superior to recent disappointment of The Stand and I can think of much worse adaptations of Stephen King’s books.

Kandice | 4387 comments I signed up for a free trial just to watch this. I watched the first two episodes tonight and am loving it with the exception of the Long Boy. It looks...stupid. And the music. Not the songs, because those choices are terrific, but the score is horrible! The music to indicate menace is so over the top. I almost want to turn off the sound and just read the closed captions.

Like Nick, I don't really care for Dooley, but I'm hoping he gets better.

The Debusher sisters and Scott are all perfectly cast.

I agree on all counts Kandice.
