Jasper "Jazz" Dent is a likable teenager. A charmer, one might say.

But he's also the son of the world's most infamous serial killer, and for Dear Old Dad, Take Your Son to Work Day was year-round. Jazz has witnessed crime scenes the way cops wish they could—from the criminal's point of view.

And now bodies are piling up in Lobo's Nod.

In an effort to clear his name, Jazz joins the police in a hunt for a new serial killer. But Jazz has a secret—could he be more like his father than anyone knows?

i managed to read one prequel Career Day which provided some background about Jasper's life. After reading chapter 1 I felt like i needed to read the prequels. Sadly, they're not available!

chapter 1: (view spoiler)[so, Jazz spies on a crime scene. why? i have no idea yet. He lives with his aging grandma (which is funny how he talks about her). and he had a relationship with an african-american girl named Connie, which is very interesting by itself. I long to know more. (hide spoiler)]

I like Jasper's voice in the novel too..

Chapter 2: (view spoiler)[now Jasper is trying to convince Deputy G. William that it's the work of a serial killer in an attempt to clear himself of suspicion. That was pretty quick. And how is it that G. William's relationship came to this level of 'bantering'? I feel this wasn't explained adequately or maybe it's in the prequels idk! (hide spoiler)]

I haven't read the prequel at all but I'm liking this book so far. I'll probably read it once I'm done with the book.

Chapter 1: (view spoiler)[ I kept expecting someone to find Jazz when he was hiding. I wonder if Jazz's father's MO was taking fingers. This is getting off to a good start so far. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 2: (view spoiler)[I really like G. William! I can see both of their points of view on this case thought. It's not really likely for there to be multiple serial killers from the same town but at the same time, it definitely isn't your typical murder. I also hope we get more insight into Jazz and G. William's past. (hide spoiler)]

I really like this book so far. It has humor mixed in which always helps when I'm reading.

Chapter 3: (view spoiler)[I can understand why Jazz is worried about being seen as or becoming a serial killer. He definitely thinks like one but I think the fact that he's so conscious about it and is fighting it so much will help him. I like Howie. He's a cool character and keeps Jazz grounded a lot. This book kind of reminds me of Criminal Minds

Chapter 4: (view spoiler)[I'm glad that Howie and Jazz didn't get into too much trouble. G. William had decent reasoning too. Also I get the feeling the deputy is going to end up being the killer (hide spoiler)]

I like how the chapter moves quickly.. i hope it keeps that way..

Yeah the chapters are in easy to read chunks which is really nice.

Chapter 7: (view spoiler)[ Jazz's dad has really made him paranoid it looks like. I wonder if that victim's father will play a bigger part in the book. Connie seems cool and like a really good match for Jazz so far. (hide spoiler)]

I'm at Chapter 11 and (view spoiler)[we know now that his father killed his mom which is yet another thing that can either distance Jazz from his dad or get them closer but i'm betting on the first. The progress in the case is going so slowly though.

I loved Jazz's interaction with Melissa the social worker.. (hide spoiler)] and you're absolutely right the humor does make it easier to lose yourself in.

God, it's gotten so good now I can't put it down.. but i have to sleep so i'm stopping @ chapter 17 : (view spoiler)[Jazz figuring out the killer's method of choosing victims is great. I really wanted to read the extra about how G. William captured Billy, it'd have provided us with a way to understand him better. but i find myself a lil bored with some explanations.. Jasper breakdown about his mom to Connie was heartbreaking :( (hide spoiler)]

I only read up to chapter 10 last night because I was super busy yesterday and by the time I got free time, I was exhausted.
(view spoiler)[So they found out how the body was moved. That's pretty interesting. I wonder what the thing on the ring means. (hide spoiler)]

I just finished chapter 18: (view spoiler)[ This is great. I think Jazz is about to get his first glimpse of the killer. It's interesting to see how he uses the skill his dad taught him to get his way but I don't think it's doing him any good with his paranoia. I have the feeling that the killer will escape and Jazz will be blamed for the murders or something. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 19: (view spoiler)[ Poor Jazz. I'm not sure how to feel about his reaction to Ginny's murder though. Also I really hope Howie is alright. (hide spoiler)]

Things are starting to get a bit intense in the investigation. I'm really into this book...
Chapter 21: (view spoiler)[ G. Williams is finally listening to Jazz and pursuing the Billy Dent lead. I'm really glad Howie is alright though. I really don't like Erikson, even if he turns out to not be the killer. Jaz doesn't want to pursue the investigation since Howie got hurt which seems like a good indication he's not like his dad I think. (hide spoiler)]

I'm stopping now that I've finished chapter 28 because I don't want to finish the book just yet. (view spoiler)[ Jazz just broke down to Connie. It was really really sad but I'm glad he's decided to visit his dad. I think he needs it. More people have died and I have the feeling at least one or two more will. I'm not sure who the killer is anymore. It could still be Erikson but it might not be. Connie is so good for Jazz it's ridiculous. (hide spoiler)]

I KNOW *_* (view spoiler)[that breaking-down scene was sooooooooo good my heart turned to mush.. but scary at the same time 'coz of the whole "did you hear something?" I think in a way Connie and Howie became our rock as readers as well. I loved the scene when Jazz told them that he's going to see his dad. So funny! (hide spoiler)]

I have a burning desire to finish yet it's soooo good i wanna prolong it as much as i can too.

Had to finish Confess-didn't think they went well together! Read opening two chapters-Jasper seems fairly grounded, but I'm suspicious that he wants to help track down the killer of the body found.

Chapters 1-4. Jasper's a fascinating character - his relationship with Sheriff Tanner seems like father-replacement, but it seems Tanner sees something in Jasper to keep an eye on.

Chapters 5-9. The Impressionist-sinister. Is he linked to Jasper's father? A couple of comments hint that Jasper may have killed. Have I missed something, or is it simply his own fear?

Chapters 10-18. A copycat, or is Billy behind this? Gripping stuff.

Chapters 19-23. This is all getting a bit close to home for Jasper. Grandma-do feel some sympathy for her decline, but she's venomous.

Reflections so far: (view spoiler)[ I really like Jazz. He is so interesting and comes from a messed up background. He has gone through so much, yet is still able to power through it. He is smart, but still makes risky decisions which makes for a good character and is really good to carry the story as opposed to some weak, perfect character. Just a thought of mine... Final thoughts: (view spoiler)[ I liked this book. Jazz was a really great character as mentioned earlier. I am a sucker for a good serial killer novel and this was a good one. Jazz had some not so bad moments, and some sad moments like when Jazz broke down when he was talking to Connie. This book was actually quite good, but I didn't know how it would start. There were some boring parts in the beginning and middle, but overall a really good book. (hide spoiler)]

One other thing I like (view spoiler)[ This book wasn't too gory. I'm not saying that it wasn't, but it wasn't bad if you can handle it or read books like that. It did focus on psychological aspects for a lot of the book though. (hide spoiler)]

So sorry guys, I haven't had a chance to read this! It ended up not coming through from the library in time, and life has just gotten ridiculous. I won't join in for this one, but hope you all enjoyed it :)

Started Game (part 2). Really want Jazz to see the good in himself, but I can't begin to imagine how messed up you'd be in his situation. Have a horrible feeling about this New York trip.

I can't wait to start this finally next week!

Game. Up to ch13. Billy seems to be involved in this, but not sure how. The level of detail is horrific, but we're suitably detached at the moment.

Ending Thoughts
(view spoiler)[ Was an alright book. I read this one 2yrs ago, so i kinda remembered what happened, but i forgot about some stuff and it was a nice refresher to go into book 2. I like Jax but he seems damaged and i fear he will go crazy somewhere down the line... (hide spoiler)]

Up to chapter 20-Game. Oh my! This is, possibly, even better than book 1.

Game-up to ch35. Connie? Crazy thing to do...

Game-up to ch50. Talk about tense.

Aaaagggggghhhh! How can I even wait a week to get onto part 3 and get some answers? Gory, tension-filled and highly entertaining. Think I enjoyed this more than part 1.

Part 1 - 3 Players, 2 Sides (Chpt 3) ~ Billy Dent seeing a strange face in the mirror was creepy.

Part 2 - 4 Players, 3 Sides (Chpt 8): (view spoiler)[ Jazz having a memorial service for his mother was good closure.

NYPD homocide detective Louis Hughes approached Jazz for help for the Hat Dog Killer. Why is the killer carving hats and dogs on the victims?

Aunt Samantha (Dent) Dennis is coming to take care of Gramma. What is Billy Dent's sister going to be like?

I thought it was foolish of Connie to go to NYC. Jazz didn't need her to go. Did she go for him or for herself? (hide spoiler)]
