Janice (jamasc) | 60507 comments I was beginning to feel like I was haunted. There was knocking coming from under the table. The legs even lifted off the floor, and the cloudy crystal ball almost rolled off onto the floor. I could hear a strange yet familiar ticking sound. It sounded like the fruit machine. I dusted off my turban, grabbed the Windex bottle and gave the crystal ball a good shine. Finally, I fished out the old tip jar. Madame Tutti Fruiti has returned!

So, here is the challenge:

Select 5 books from your "to read", "to listen to", or "wishlist" shelves. Write them in a comment in this thread. Don't forget to link them!!

I will summon the fruit machine, put your choices in, whisper "presto-chango", and then tell you which book you will be reading between Oct 1 & 31, 2014.

You may chose books from the Group Read or the October Toppler, but you may not chose books from your Chunkster challenge.

If the book that is randomly selected for you is a complete dud, I can put the remaining 4 in for a reshuffle and selection.

If you want to read all 5 books, the fruit machine can determine the order in which you read them.

Are you ready to learn your future?

message 20: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19216 comments I'm also going to have to randomise my books down to 5 for you to pick from. I can't make decisions like that.

message 21: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60507 comments Rusalka wrote: "I'm also going to have to randomise my books down to 5 for you to pick from. I can't make decisions like that."

Hahahaah!

message 22: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60507 comments The scene revealed in my newly cleaned crystal ball was the tax man knock, knock, banging at the door. The next scene was the client's hands wrapped around Madame TF's neck, turban sitting all askew. I shall heed that dire warning and do some real work today. Book predictions begin tonight.

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments Hi, all! I'm a new member here and I'm quite excited to join in this challenge! I've been having a lot of trouble deciding what to read next so I figured it was time to start reading challenges again to help narrow down decisions. Madame Tutti Fruiti is coming along at a perfect time!
Now, I just have to narrow down that TBR to only 5 books! Eek, this is going to be hard! LOL.

Welcome Kim. Good to see you jumping right in to the fray.

Be sure to keep your eyes open for news of the Week Long Team Toppler Challenge coming up in October. It's a good way to get to know everyone (or the trouble-makers at least).

message 26: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments Thanks for the advice, Almeta. I'll definitely do that!

Okay, I used a random number generator to pick my 5 books (although, I may have clicked a couple extra times when I didn't like the first choice lol)... here goes:

Fate
Nico
Golden's Quest
Pines
Jenny Pox

Madame Tutti Fruiti, I will be reading all of these books, so please foretell the order I should read them.

message 28: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Oh Wise and Wonderful Madame Tutti Fruitti, I beseech you: such decisions are not to be undertaken by mere mortals alone.

1. This House is Haunted
2. Bloodsucking Fiends
3. The Girl with All the Gifts
4. The Ghost Bride
5. Eleanor

message 29: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60507 comments Lara - A dark shape swirled around in my crystal ball. It was quite thrilling with historical significance. As the image came clearer, and the lines of latitude and longitude showed nothing cataclysmic. Then I realized it was all a fantasy and the image was clear. You will be reading Master of Crows.

message 30: by Casceil (last edited Sep 25, 2014 11:12AM) (new)

Casceil | 2720 comments Madame Tutti Fruitti the all-seeing, which of these books is worthiest to be read first?

1. The Good, the Bad, and the Emus
2. The Wolfe Widow
3. The Cat Sitter's Nine Lives
4. The Paris Wife
5. A Dangerous Talent Edited 9/25.
Originally I listed Romancing the Duke as book 5. Explanation follows:

Edited 9/25. Madame Tutti Fruitti. I was weak. I have already started reading Romancing the Duke. Please forgive me, and substitute as my new book number 5, A Dangerous Talent. Again, I apologize.

message 31: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60507 comments Almeta - Oh ye of fickle allegiances. I predict that poor Mr. Westlake will be lonely yet again. Let's hope he isn't violent because his rival for your affections could be found The Dead in Their Vaulted Arches.

message 32: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60507 comments Dawn - I see that you are tempted to do things by halves. There is more in your stars. I hope that The Thousand Names will start you on a journey that will make you whole.

message 33: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60507 comments Lannelle - Things are going to be hot and cold for you in October... Hot reads and cold showers! You see, Lord Stannington's Secret is that he has no Rogue's Honor. On Lady Eugenia's Holiday, he'll introduce her to Dominic and the three of them will have A Certain Want of Reason.

message 34: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 915 comments Hey all! I do believe I'm back (at least at minimal speed, lol). What a lovely way to jump back into things :-)

Do you're magic Madame Tutti Fruitti, please :-)

Smoke Gets in Your Eyes: And Other Lessons from the Crematory

message 35: by Janice, Moderator (last edited Sep 24, 2014 08:14PM) (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60507 comments Tejas Jane - At first I thought your titles had broken my crystal ball. It seemed to give up secrets, laughter, and singing. It turned the strangest blue. But then I heard the echo, and I knew you'd be at The Sea, the Sea.

message 36: by Cherie (last edited Sep 24, 2014 07:09PM) (new)

message 37: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60507 comments Liz - I could see a journey at every turn of my crystal ball. I turned and turned and the journey seemed to be without end. I was so dizzy I started to see stars and then it hit me. Your journey is an explosion of stars, A Constellation of Vital Phenomena.

message 38: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60507 comments Elsbeth - It's a frightful omen! I'm worried for you and really hope that you have Somewhere To Fight For The Society of Imaginary Friends at Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children!! There are Horns at the Gates. Very ominous indeed!

message 39: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60507 comments Peggy - Lies, skies, and 600 hours with Edward are all things that can lead you astray. I can see into your future and recommend that you take a walk through the prairie fields and pick a Yellow Crocus or two. Heck, pick a posy!

message 40: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60507 comments Lucy - the fruit machine was ready with a pick, when a commercial came on the tv. I cannot ignore the significance since there are no coincidences! I must warn you though. Pick your way carefully through the mine field that is Gone Girl.

message 41: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60507 comments Sarah - I see dead people in my crystal ball as well as ghouls and goblins. I didn't think it odd at this time of year. But what was odd, was that a name came to mind. It was non other than Odd Thomas.

message 42: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60507 comments Lisa - Have you been getting the hiccups a lot lately? There are some old wives tales about the phenomenon. What my mother says causes them, my mother-in-law says cures them. Seriously!! I cannot tell The Lie. Read this, and hiccup no more.

message 43: by Janice, Moderator (last edited Sep 24, 2014 08:00PM) (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60507 comments Camilla - There is always a skeptic in the group, and I know you are testing me. But let me amaze you and the Children of the Night. Some of them you will find in a steel coffin Teräsarkku. It could be a Holiday in Death if you aren't careful. Jump on the express train Pikajuna Mumbaihin: matka Intiaan where you will find veiled truths Piippo ja verhotut totuudet.

message 44: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60507 comments Karin - There was a children's game called Rock, Paper, Scissors. Keep your scissors handy because they cut A Paper Life.

message 45: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60507 comments Madame Tutti Fruiti must take a break. She'll be back tomorrow once she's refreshed after imbibing some spirits.
