That's a great pick. I have that one still to read.
I'm leaning toward Murder at Mansfield Park for the moment.

Thx....looked at yours above just now but no. :)
just going to leave stuff on here and then pick later. don't have a whole lot of spooky stuff. I am going to look for titles with letters from October
Going with The Witches of Longbourn trilogy. Witchcraft and magic and ghosts, oh my. The Witches of Longbourn: Pride and Prejudice and Witches
3.5-3.75 Certainly an interesting/spooky tale. Too many "dispatchings" for my liking. I enjoyed meeting Mary and Frank Austen. And Martha Lloyd.
I thought it was great that this one brought in one of her sea-faring brothers and the time living with his wife and Martha. I can't remember the murder mystery part and I think I read it before I keeping review notes on GR. Glad you liked it, Kirk!

decided on
for my October reading!
I'm going to read The Bride of Northanger by Diana Birchall. :) It looks spooky and gothic.
But, I also need to read an older one to meet the challenge so I'll be trying to read my original pick, Murder at Mansfield Park by Lynn Shepherd. :)

Jane and the Barque of Frailty pub'd in 2006Happy October reading everyone!
I recently read it for the first time and I get why you loved it and had to re-read, Kirk. It's a perfect fit for this month. :)

Okay, I gave Murder at Mansfield Park a go, but it shocked my sensibilities over what it did to the characters too much so I had to tap out after only one chapter.
I'm still in the mood for Mansfield Park so I think I'll take up A Contrary Wind: a variation on Mansfield Park by Lona Moning as my 'C' book.

Sorry to read that!!! I had given that book some thought in the past but something put me off. Based on your review, I can see why! Hopefully you will enjoy A Contrary Wind! I enjoyed it but had some mixed feelings about the sequel/part 2. Happy reading!!

Yeah, they were pretty traumatic alterations to the characters and I couldn't do it. It threw me off too much to shuffle the personalities and even shuffle all of their circumstances, too.
Good to know that you enjoyed A Contrary Wind if not its sequel.

I enjoyed it! The various suspects were interesting and it was fun to hang out with Eliza and Henry. Cheers!

Sophia will post up a Scavenger Clue (theme) from those submitted by the members and that will determine what you choose to pull off your shelf (or the local library's shelf) to read.
This will be a difficult (but not too difficult) challenge in that your book has to meet two qualifications.
1. It has to match the Scavenger Clue Theme.
2. It has to have been published over 2 years ago.
That's right! We're aiming at those oldies, but goodies that have been left behind to gather dust for the bright and shiny newer releases.
Any format may be admissible.
Your Clue: The title of your book must start with any letter from the word OCTOBER or you can pick a spooky or mystery theme
I'm defining this one to include dropping 'the', 'a', etc if necessary to get the right letter. As to spooky, this is relative to your own comfort range.
And yes, you know me, my response when you're not sure is go with your gut if your book qualifies. This is meant for fun and to get books dusted off your shelf so I'm good with wide interpretations of the rules. LOL
If you're game, leave a comment with your choice by October 1st and then begin reading after the 1st.
As you read or when you complete your read, stop back by and update everyone.
If you run into something in your book that you want to discuss or ask about, sure thing, leave a comment so we can hash it out with you.
