You can't actualy read published books on here, but you can read and write stories posted to Goodreads.
oh, i sounded pretty stupid when i was a newbie. most people understand how it is to be a newbie. and you can experience a lot of elements of groups right here so you don't have to be completely clusless :)
yay! you can put the link to it in the advertizing topic! did you use the writing and stories topic in the useful information folder?

Does anyone know how I can make certain groups I am a member of private?

Well, no. If you are not a moderator of the group you cannot make the group private. if you are talking about hiding yourself from the group the group's setting would have to be secret, so you would also have to be a mod on that case as well.

Notifications just tell you when another goodreads member did something that may interest you. For example, Sally Sue invited you to answer "this" poll and left "this" comment in the Chat topic in the Random Group. Or, Jonny liked the first chapter of your story, The Purple Flower.
I don't know. But when you come across something that you think would be convienient for nerbies, let us know.
