the phantom tollbooth is a children's adventure novel and modern fairy tale by Norton Juster. It was published in 1961 with illustrations by Jules Feiffer. It tells the story of a bored young boy named Milo who unexpectedly receives a magic tollbooth one afternoon and, having nothing better to do, decides to drive through it in his toy car. The tollbooth transports him to a land called the Kingdom of Wisdom. There he acquires two faithful companions, has many adventures, and goes on a quest to rescue the princesses of the kingdom—Princess Rhyme and Princess Reason—from the castle in the air. The text is full of puns, and many events, such as Milo's jump to the Island of Conclusions, exemplify literal meanings of English language idioms and This is my favorite book that I have read so far. When I start reading, I just could not stop. One of my favorite parts is how creative the author is with the world Milo is in. My favorite character is Tock the watchdog; I like how he has a real clock mounted onto him. Another great thing about this book is that with a different type of world come perfect places to make hilarious jokes.

Larry Darnell one of my favorite books as a teenager. got my cousin to read it, and she made it a college writing course.

Melinda Brasher I loved it as well. I still think about the 0.3 kid who gets to drive the 0.5 car.

Regan I read it again last year and from an adult point of view it was even more enjoyable than what I remember when I was a kid -- and I LOVED it then.

Hope This book is very witty and intriguing. I would suggest it to all grade-schoolers.
