Tania | 3 comments Well, sadly, I haven't got a cat at the moment. I'm looking for a place to live where I can have a cat. I have always had Siamese and I love them. In my experience, they just want to be close, so they will just lie on you and let you read. When I have a place, I shall go over to Sussex to my favourite breeder. My sister used to keep her horse with her, and my niece was got one of her cats at the age of 5 and eventually bought her first pony (age 11) from the profits. Charlie, my first cat was given to me from one of her litters.
I'm currently reading The Camomile Lawn, but alone, obviously.

A carer without a cat is sad. My daughter has a beautiful 2 year old Siamese (chocolate brown) that she got from the Humane Society. She’s called Spirit and is a tiny little thing compared to my Romeo who is quite a big cat. Hope you find your next charge soon. In the meantime I hope sharing of cat stories will keep you going.
The Camomile Lawn I know of but never read. Will have to see if Romeo fancies that one.

Romeo and I have read Macbeth this month. He loved it when I read parts out to him and gave this one 5 meows. Although I suspect he liked it most because it is a small book which I could read holding it in one hand leaving the other free to stroke him.

message 5: by Rosemarie (new)

Rosemarie I inherited my daughter's cat Minou a few years ago, when she decided that looking after two cats and a baby was a lot of work. Minou is a sweet old lady who spends most of her time sleeping on our bed. She is too big and squirmy for my lap. I am sure she would love what I am reading right now- Calvin and Hobbes.

I had Siamese cats in the past and they have all gone to kitty heaven. And I still miss them, since they were all so special.

I agree that they are all special. I get so much from my cat who I got as a kitten but think in future I will adopt older cats who for whatever reason no longer have a home. I find Romeo is so much more affectionate as he has aged. When he was younger he was quite exhausting. Although Romeo is my cat he thinks my son is his brother and if he thinks I am threatening to Josh even when I am not (for example just by raising my voice a little)Romeo nips me. His defence of him is very touching. When Josh was away from home for a week Romeo wandered up and down crying and stopped eating. He was showing signs of grief. He calmed down when he came home.

Rosemarie I was worried when we had a cat sitter for the first time, since Minou was shy, but we needn't have worried. They hit it off from the first, since my cat sitter loves cats, having four herself.

Deborah (deborahkliegl) Madison and I have read a lot this month. Some cozy mysteries have been our guilty pleasure this month. I also volunteer on Tuesday’s at a cage free, no kill, kitty shelter. While I do what’s needed, I mostly socialize the shy scared kitties. When they relax and blossom, they make my day. I’ve been volunteering there for the past 6 years. So when I’m in town, tuesdays are kitty day

Peter (slawophilist) Tire and Salma currently assist me reading Hortense oder Die Rückkehr nach Baden-Baden, a book by a German author living in the 1st half of the 20th century about an independent woman living mid 1800 in Europe and USA. And we help him to finish soon Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell.

That sounds lovely Deborah. Cats are definitely special creatures. They are the only animal that chose to live with humans.

Lovely. Are they the same age? Do they hang out with you together or separately?

We adopted them separately. Tire is 4 year older. Still they behave almost like brother and sister, enjoying lying together, sometime even nestled into each other. Often both of them sit with me, but sometimes they do shifts.
