Davidg | 34 comments When I first looked at this book I dismissed it immediately thinking this wasn't written for me. Then when it came up for discussion here, I read a few reviews and did a complete 180. This sounds exactly the sort of thing I like to read!
I don't have much to add to the excellent reviews that can be found on this site. I'll just say that I agree that the moral of the story didn't need to be jammed down my throat at the end and I had no idea that chibi style artwork could ever express something that I would find so creepy. Overall it was a good reminder not to judge a book by its cover.

L M Just met Bryan O'Malley at NYCC - managed to get a ticket to have him sign Seconds. Will try to contribute here.

He was a man a few words.

Tiamatty So, I finished it a couple days ago. I loved it. It's so good. It's funny, and weird, and creepy, and sweet, and just great. The whole "spirit of the house" thing was neat. I loved the friendship with Hazel. I could definitely relate to Katie being 29, and feeling old and going nowhere. I'm 29 and, having graduated college, I currently work as a cashier at Wal-Mart. So "29, old and going nowhere" definitely hit me.

And I loved all the humour. Such a great book.

Nadine | 5 comments I really loved that book! It's funny, because I was never attracted to the style of the author. But now, I can't understand why, because once I started the book, I thought it was really charming.
The story is fun and quite though provoking at the same time. The main character is not really likeable, but we can still relate to her.

Really, can't find a fault in this book. I could recommend it to anyone.

Sam Quixote (samquixote) totally enjoyed this too. O'Malley's grown as a storyteller since Scott Pilgrim but thankfully not too much. Super fun comic and wonderful anime art. Davidg is totally right when he says the chibi art is surprisingly expressive - it really is!

Eric England | 5 comments Seconds was excellent. This was my first experience reading a Bryan Lee O' Malley graphic novel (I have seen the movie Scott Pilgrim Versus The World, but have not read the graphic novel series). I really enjoyed his writing and art style. In particular, the way Seconds melded a character study of a young adult female, science fiction, and fantasy was extremely well-done. The fact that all the characters, including the fantasy ones, were so flawed, real, and sympathetic is a testament to O'Malley' storytelling ability. I would recommend it.

Emilie Braunel | 2 comments SPOILER
No one has really commented about my favorite aspect of the book - making revisions on your life. The idea of looking back and changing one thing - getting that second chance in life - was fun to see how it was going to play out. Of course the main character learned some lessons along the way, especially that things aren't always better the second time around. Another aspect I liked was that she didn't go back in time, just woke up to the present day with the impact of the changes made because of fixing her "mistakes". Excellent read!

Nadine | 5 comments I agree with you Emilie. Also, the fact that she had to guess what happened, didn't know her own life anymore was interesting. Personally, that would have scare me to death and made me stop any alteration. But the author was good at showing how the appeal would be irresistible.
(just one little change and my life will be perfect).

Pranay | 50 comments I just finished reading it yesterday in one sitting. What attracted me to it was its theme of "getting a second chance at making amends in your life". The possibilities were endless. However the rule mentioned in the book, that "the revision" had to happen within the house would prevent you from making any changes that had happened outside.

The book is fun and interesting and keeps the reader hooked. The art style by O'Malley is similar to that used in Scott Pilgrim and further lends the book its distinct aura. Really good read.

So I went back and read this pick since I joined the club toward the end of the month it was chosen. Has anyone else been looking over their shoulders for a house spirit since reading this? Just me maybe? Mkay, moving on.

Really good book that immersed me in the story. Plenty of stuff for people in their 20's and 30's to identify with in there. Life spoilers, the price of getting your crap together is having to make career and financial decisions that have long term impact on your life.

Somewhat of a story spoiler, but what i felt this book really captured was how our decisions define us. Only a different person would make different decisions and you probably wouldn't agree with everything else they did either.

I gave it five out of five drawers of mysterious plot devices.
