Susan Lewallen (susanlewallen) | 803 comments I thoroughly enjoyed this mystery/whodunnit. I can’t be sure that some of my pleasure wasn’t due to the fact that I listened to it on audio as I drove across the Mojave, a bit desperate for entertainment. But, last year, on the same route, I tried to listen to The Boys in the Boat and frankly it didn’t make the journey across the desert much easier. (That’s not to dismiss the Boys, but the languorous telling didn’t work for me as an audio.) Anyway, The Word is Murder was fast paced, with Horowitz’s humorous dry one-liners and characters with personalities that were hilariously incompatible -- and to make it even better, the narrator was superb. I hadn’t quite finished the book when I got to my destination in the New Mexico mountains and I stayed in the car listening until it was over. Great entertainment!
