Upper Elementary Book Review discussion

The Amulet series by Kazu Kibuishi has been a big hit with a lot of my reluctant readers, boys and girls alike. It’s a graphic novel, which helps with the intimidation factor with students. The stories center on the adventures of Emily Hayes, who must try to rescue her kidnapped mother with the assistance of her younger brother Navin, a mysterious amulet, and helper robots. Kiddos really get invested in the character and the story, it’s beautifully illustrated and doesn’t look babyish, and it’s got a lot of surprise and intrigue. If you have a classroom library, you may want to have several copies of these books. Ideal for 5th, but easily works for 4th - 6th.
