If you haven't guessed...weird-western is one of my favorite genres
series by Jason Brant. Gory, zombie western and a dastardly bastard who is a great anti-hero. Fun series and mostly free on Amazon. The 3rd book has not been a freebie that I know of; but the first 2 are always going for free intermittently.
One of the last books I read was Skin Medicine and I've never enjoyed a book more and been disturbed at the same time! It was excellent and I definitely need to read more Tim Curran books.

I didn't realize Jonathan Maberry had written a weird western and I'm friends with him lol. I'll definitely have to check this out.
I'm not big on Westerns generally but Richard Matheson wrote a very good one that had supernatural elements called Shadow on the Sun.

I have all three books. I've read the first and the third, and really liked them. You won't be sorry.

I thought I would revive this thread for two reasons. First, I'm going to start reading some western horror novels to get back into the genre and two I'm currently working on a new western horror novel called Brimstone Express. The first book I'm going to read is called The Crowman by Gareth Clegg

It's up for pre-launch on Kindle for an April 18th release (paperback came out March 8th).
Maybe an English author shouldn't be stepping out on the prairie, but one of my grandparents was Canadian so I figure there's at least a little piece of me belongs on that side of the water.

Since having written the thing, I've been reliably informed that it's a genre that doesn't sell in good numbers. Still, given that one early review described it as the Donner Party meets Bone Tomahawk, meets the Creature from the Black Lagoon at the Mountains of Madness... well, at least I can guarantee the weird bit, right?
And maybe, between us, we can give the horror western sub-genre a spark!
The launch for mine has, so far, been a disaster. I've been struck down with Covid again, and it's all I can do to scribble this on here. Unfortunately, I've shifted too many pre-order sales to justify postponing the launch. But my head is definitely not in the game.
Anyhow, can you say what the premise is that you're working on, or would you rather not? I understand either way. Best of luck with it!
A cool western horror book series by author: Ronald Kelly
Vampires, Zombies, & Mojo Men (1st book in the series)
The Saga of Dead-Eye, Book Two: Werewolves, Swamp Critters, & Hellacious Haints! (2nd book in the series) (note: I need to read this one yet but I do own it). :)

Congrats on the upcoming book and yes I don't see why we can't give the genre a spark. I feel it's got just enough of a fan base to turn heads and spark interest. I just pre-ordered a copy of your book. Looking forward to reading it.
As for mine, sure I can give a little away. It's about an outlaw and his gang who rob trains along the west coast and the outlaw hears of a train called the Brimstone Express that has everything a man could want and more. He and his men board the train and there the tale begins...
I'm going to be re-launching my first western horror A Bloody Bloody Mess in the Wild Wild West on April 21st. I touched and fixed it up a bit. I'll be going live to discuss it that day and will likely shed some light on the new project as well.

These sound interesting
I also loved Ghostwalkers 5 stars! Jonathan Maberry is one of my very favorite authors! Ray Porter is my favorite narrator!I also recommend The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger Born #1 American Vampire, Vol. 1 &Preacher, Volume 1: Gone to Texas graphic novels.
This show on AMC+ That Dirty Black Bag 10/10 is the most western western horror I can imagine. I may think of more books later.
PROOF: A Bloody Bloody Mess In The Wild Wild West has officially been re-launched with a slightly altered cover as well as revised chapters 1 & 2. Still just as bloody as before.

That's good of you to purchase a copy. The Weird/Horror Western genre is a strange one, because people always comment on it being an "interesting" setting. I think a massively successful movie would turn a few more eyes towards the book market.
Best of luck with the re-launch. I'll grab a copy.
Thanks David and Ohpelia!David, I agree. It's an interesting genre that has a fan base but could definitely be bigger. A film director actually reached out to me last year interested in turning A Bloody Bloody Mess in the Wild Wild West into a tv series. Unfortunately, the guy he pitched it to wasn't interested. Maybe some day or maybe someone can hit it big with a film to jumpstart the genre
is now available. It is my 12th novel and second western horror. Hope all you weird western fans will check it out, I think you'll enjoy it.
