I totally agree with you. I just finished it, and as I told I friend, I think I'm still digesting it.

Małgorzata Chmielewska The language of the author is incredibly beautiful, it sounds like a poetry put into prose, and the story combines the elements of magic and reality in such a way that the narration is truly vivid and mysterious.

Philip Lee Anyone who enjoyed this book, as I did, might be interested to read my detailed review of it. I have lived in Turkey for twenty-two years now, so I feel reasonably qualified to judge not just the good read it is, but also how well Ms. Şafak manages to capture the glittering melt-pot of modern Istanbul:

Gabriella Contestabile I read this book years ago and was inspired to go to Turkey, not once but twice. Ms. Safak's skill and sensibilities as a writer enabled me to experience and savor all the dimensions of this fascinating culture. I do believe the book helped me see, hear and feel on a deeper level. A fascinating country, complex characters shaped by the worlds that surround them, a vivid portrayal of artistic and family influences, a true depiction of issues, problems, conflicts that simmer below the surface. I went on to read her other books and became even more of a fan.
