Wow - so many characters - and, you only get to meet them for one chapter and then they go away for awhile. I was worried that I would forget their backgrounds when they came back into play. At one point almost halfway through I was wondering if the characters would come back or if each chapter was going to stand by itself as a vignette.

Now I am about 75% through and many of the characters (not all) discussed earlier in the book are back. I will admit I had to go back and scan some of the chapters to remember them and their back ground (i.e. I couldn't remember which couple was the divorcing couple at first). I think if my schedule had allowed me to read this faster it would not have been a problem; it was at least a week between meeting their character and their return which usually doesn't happen for me when reading.

I think for me it is because there were so many that prevented the is from happening. very 8nterwstung mix of characters though :)

Joe Imhoff | 168 comments I'm pleased that the characters had such an effect. One of my biggest complaints about zombie movies/shows is that there aren't a lot of people traveling together. That being said, it is something the walking dead does. But usually the characters sort down to just a few, but I think that's a modern thinking placed on an old concept. I think people would huddle together as long as relationships were fruitful and separate quickly when they weren't. Ben's character has the most direct struggle with this. What do you think would happen?

Always seems to me like when characters in a zombie story have a good thing going, I know things are going to get messed up. I guess that is what has to happen to keep the story moving along, but I approach every zombie story/movie/show with skepticism when things are going well . . . I know it is only a matter of time . . .

Alex (necrotic_flesh) | 122 comments I feel like Ben is starting to warm up to the idea of staying with the group as he can see the benefits, but at the same time is trying to distance himself to avoid being hurt if he grows too much of an attachment and then people get killed. But in saying that I am also anticipating you trowing us a curve ball and having him just take off haha

Joe Imhoff | 168 comments Yeah, I get what you're both talking about. It does always seem like the characters fight fight fight to get a little and then it is briskly taken from them. It's a difficult mechanism to overcome.
