Dystopia Land discussion

Y’all. I’m a speculative fiction nerd and have been planning to read Octavia Butler for forever. Besides Kindred however, the few things I’ve picked up have not my cup of tea so far. Can anyone recommend a book NOT about vampires? Please and thank you.

Parable of the Sower is pretty classic. I've read it twice, and enjoyed it both times. If you like it, there's a sequel, Parable of the Talents.
