I don't really know the differences between middle-grade and YA as far as writing goes so I can't really comment on that. It felt very standard YA to me but I haven't read that much really good YA, you know? I've written YA too many times now.
I think the pace was fine, it was fine, it was just fine. I'd give it a 2.5/5 but I put a 3 on here. I liked it fine, there wasn't anything I really disliked! It was just...okay. I mean I wanted to keep reading and everything and if someone gave me the second book I'd read it you know? You know? You know? I can't write.
I'm bad at reviews at the best of times!!
I'm pretty sure that the sculptor was an actual person? I've heard of that kind of weird shit before and that's why it genuinely freaked me out. Other than the fact that the sculptor was mentioned and described, I wasn't really creeped out by this book at all! I mean there were bits which were a little creepy and made me continue reading but I wasn't really shaken at all by it. I guess I need to read more scary books!
I didn't care that much about any of the characters as I couldn't really relate to them. The only ones I thought were interesting were the Daniel Crawford from the past and Abby's aunt.
I swear people don't actually talk like that! Sometimes the dialogue and just the general thought processes of the characters were just one big eyeroll! Ugh.
BUT it was cool, wanted more creepy pictures the few that were actually scary were all near the beginning. Just....an easy to read book. Perfect for me and my little brain right now, can't cope with much haha.
Totally get what you mean about it feeling like a first draught!
Sorry for this rambley thing, I'm not good at putting thoughts together! (Which is just great for dissertations!)
