This long table stretches down the Great Hall, on the center right side of the room (if you were facing the front/professors' table).

Laylan took his seat. He didn't know what to really talk about. His sister was in Hufflepuff so it was kinda odd for him to not talk.
Alfie started taking food as soon as it appeared in front of him. Jacob shouted all the way across the table and Alfie waved back, his smile widening as his brother pointed at him, his friends also waving at him. He felt proud, at least he wouldn't be alone. He was too busy waving to notice he had dropped a porkchop in the plate of the guy next to him. Only until Jacob made signs for him to apologize. "Sorry mate" he said quickly before sitting down and started eating. "Alphbie" He said, his mouth full of mashed potatoes. "Alfie Lewis" he extended his dirty hand after swallowing, a wide smile on his face.
"Nah, it's alright." Laylan waved the apology away. He wasn't mean but only slightly cocky at times compared to his Hufflepuff sister. "I'm Laylan Kinkad. Good to meet you, Alfie." He easily took the porkchop off his plate so he could finish eating.
"Same" said Alfie quickly, stuffing his mouth again. "You happy with Ravenclaw?" He asked, something inside of him wanting to make friends since everyone he knew in Ravenclaw was at least three years older than him. He didn't want to be alone in class, and this guy seemed cool. Quiet, but Alfie could fix that.
"Yea." Laylan nodded. He had narrowed the house to Ravenclaw or Slytherin. It was a nice house he was put into. "You have family here?" He asked noticing the bit wave somewhere towards the end of the table.
"Yeah" Alfie answered between mouthfuls. "That's my older brother, he's a seventh year" He said, pointing to a laughing Jacob with his fork. He seemed to be having an amazing time with his friends, with whom he shared his last Start-of-Term Feast. "My two other siblings are Gryffindors" He said, his fork now wandering to the table of lions, his fork trying to look for his family. "You?" He asked, giving up and turning his attention to the banquet, his mind half on Hogwarts and half far away.
"My sister Nika is Hufflepuff, but my father is former Ravenclaw." Laylan shrugged and pointed out a brunette girl the looked like him but she laughed at a few of her friend at the table if the badgers.
"Cool mate" Alfie answered simply, his head bobbing up and down. "Is she cool? My brother told me Hufflepuffs are usually cool" He said without noticing his constant repetition of cool and the way he spoke was really fast. "Bet your dad's going to love it when you give him the news, eh?" He shook his head with a small laugh " 'Never going to hear the last of it I tell you. When my sister got Gryffindor my dad would send her letters every day, no joke!"
"Nika is usually out and about. She is like ADHD or something, never able to stay still," Laylan answered the first question. "I'm not very close to my father but he'll be proud I assure ya." His accent very noticeable of where he was raised.
Alfie laughed after Laylan spoke. "That's genuinely me in my family"He added " 'Can't stay still, lots to do" And, as if to prove a point, he stood up to reach a basket of bread. "Same 'ere" He continued the conversation "I'm closer to Jacob" Alfie pointed to the raven-haired boy by the end of the table again. "This year's going to be amazing, our Quidditch team is brilliant"
"Quidditch. It sounds fun. My father used to play." Laylan smiled, he was think of trying out for quidditch but probable wouldn't get on the team until his fourth or fifth year. It was an extravagant sport, in his opinion.
"My brother didn't make it" Alfie shrugged, trying to be cool about it without remembering how destroyed Jacob had been, year after year. He had had top marks in his OWLs though, and he was sure he'd get Exceed Expectations in his NEWTs this year. "I want to enter though, but we can't try out until next year" His voice falling down a little bit. What was he supposed to do before that? Study?
Laylan nodded, "just need to be patient for a year." He really wished for Quidditch to be for first years but that was a long shot. "Is this the house you wanted to be in?" He asked changing topic.
Alfie turned towards Laylan, his left hand still with the fork and playing with what was left of the pork chop. "It was either this or Gryffindor really" He said "Family, but they never really told me I had to get into either, it was just…implied, you know? I guess I could've gotten Hufflepuff and it would've been all right" He pondered about this for a moment, wondering what it would've been like if he'd gotten another house…"You? Was Ravenclaw your favorite?"
"I had narrowed it to this or Slytherin." Laylan shrugged. "But I think Ravenclaw best suits me compared to Slytherin." He loved his grandfather, but his grandfather wanted him in Slytherin instead of Ravenclaw.
"Really? I've never seen Slytherin as a choice…But then again it is not a choice is it?" Alfie gave a quick laugh before finishing up his drink. "The hat tells us where to go depending on where we fit best. We hear stories everyday of people not getting the house they wanted, right?" That would've been awful, by not forcing him to pick before his time, his family gave him the gift of being open to anything. "Ravenclaw's cool though" He added, as if forgetting something.
