I was thinking that At the Mountains of Madness reminded me of Jurassic Park. At the beginning of Jurassic Park (and other Michael Crichton novels) it's all science this, and science that. It makes it seem very credible and then he blends it right into the world of fiction. That way you don't know what's scientifically possible or not and you enjoy the story as something that could really happen! Lovecraft did that for me in this story too. Science-speak makes anybody sound credible (and smart I guess too) and you walk right into their trap door of madness!

I've been thinking of that film, too! Trying to remember the parallels with the Sam Neil character.

What books and/or movies can you think of that may have been inspired by Lovecraft's classic story? What elements/formula did you find in At the Mountains of Madness that attract other authors and film makers?
