Hey Rob, is that supposed to be January 12th, 2015? Just trying to make sure I have my shit correct.

That's the end date. It's a 6 week read.
So 12/1/14-1/12/15

Alex wrote: "No, this actually helps. Thanks!"Yeah, exactly. I've got a larger-than-usual pileup going on with my tbr pile. I still haven't read the last 5 books my wife bought me. Bad form on my part.
I have books from my boyfriend that I haven't read yet. He hasn't ever mentioned it. Doesn't seem perturbed by it.
Thankfully, my wife understands my craziness (she's the one who bought me The Forge of Darkness), but I don't like to push it. I actually own a number of books (like the entire Dresden Files series) that I haven't read yet...but she has.
I have a question about joining this group read. I've read the first two books of the main series and I've used the discussion to help me understand what's going on and that has been crucial! Should I continue to read the main series before I read the trilogy or does it matter?I'd like to read along here but I don't want to learn things that should have waited.
Yes, I would finish the main series first. This series is a flasback and will probably spoil events from books near the end of the original series.
Hello guys,This here is my first time ever posting to a group and I would like to be a part of this reading group :)
I finished reading the series some months ago and absolutely loved it (I think i read the entire series in 4 months).
So how does a group reading work ? I'm sorry if this sounds like a noob question, maybe a link to a page that explains group reading would answer my question.
Thanks! :)
We'll be reading the book over 6 weeks. I'll post a schedule later this week. At the beginning of each week one of the mods will create discussion threads for each chapter we are reading and discussing that week.
No spoilers are allowed in the threads unless enclosed in spoiler tags.

I honestly thought I was done with Malazan for awhile after spending an entire year reading the series, but you guys pulled me back in. We'll see if I can keep up...
Hmm, I just finished the fourth book of Butcher's Codex of Alera and was about to start the fifth, but I think I can prioritize Forge of Darkness instead for the time being.I actually never read FoD so I'm looking forward to this.
I have put NO Spoilers on the FoD discussion threads, but I want to discuss with y'all about exactly what spoilers.
Obviously if you have read Forge you can't do spoilers on this story, but I am also assuming that we are going to spoiler tag for the Malazan series. There may be a lot of referencing to the main series with the characters in these books, so we need to make a decisions whether it would be fair to spoiler tag for those discussions. In saying that, I don't want to fill these threads up with nothing but spoiler tags because they are a pain in the ass when reading on the app.
So I could announce in the threads that there are Malazan Book of Fallen spoilers in this thread or we tag. THoughts?

Well Can this series be read without reading Book of the Fallen?
I still haven't read the ICE books myself, and do plan on it at some point. So I'd like to avoid spoilers to those.
However for Erikson's original series, I think spoilers for that don't necessarily need tags.

Well then, I guess we say spoiler tags to start with, and go revise if it becomes bothersome?
Honestly I'm fine either way. I'm pretty used to the spoiler tags, but I also didn't have to use myself last time. Then again I post on a PC, not a phone most of the time. I hate writing long stuff on a mobile device.

Most of the stuff I want to read/talk about is Malazan series spoilers because I have such a bad memory. i.e. I've heard a name before, but cannot remember who they are, e.g. T'riss (and I don't want to look it up on the malazan wiki because it contains spoilers for this book). But I am happy to comply to whatever is decided.(view spoiler)
Jumping in on this read. I've read everything Malazan put out so far but this will be my first following along with this groups discussion while in progress. Very much looking forward to it.
Rob wrote: "The pace is pretty relaxed."5 SE chapters a week is relaxed? I suppose it's all relative.
(Not suggesting a change.)
Think the schedule is 3 chapters a week. I have already strayed well ahead of schedule. I don't have enough will power to stop reading any SE so going to reread along with the schedule after finishing the book.
It's 4 chapter 2 weeks, 3 chapters 4 weeks.
It's an average of 109 pages (in my hard cover edition) per week. I don't consider that a lot, but everyone is different.
I'm normally done by Wednesday or Thursday (starting on Monday) then reading another book the rest of the week.

In case anyone is wondering/worrying. I'm postponing my FoD reading this week to finish up The Night Circus because I'm having a real life S&L meetup on Saturday to discuss it.
Worse case scenario, I will hopefully catch up next week, and if not next week then after Christmas.
