Harris' book is set in Arkansas, not England.
Is this a mystery series? I remember a mystery series set in England where the main character is a char, set in "Modern" times. Can't remember the title off hand, but if you think it might be this, I can search my very small (4k+) library here on GR.
Another one where the mc is a char--but is also a member of a the (extended) royal family who works as a char because she's penniless--this is a 20's historical. Her Royal Spyness is book #1.
Oh, and there's the Mrs. 'Arris books. Mrs. 'Arris Goes to Paris Mrs. 'Arris is a Cockney char in London who has some rather fun adventures.
Those are the only 3 I am personally aware of, although I'm sure that there are others.

Hi Kris, I work in a library & was about to borrow it for myself, but another borrower got to it first! It looked pretty new, so I would say this year or last year.Ann, it didn't sound like a mystery of the Mrs 'Arris type or historical, but thanks anyway. Much appreciated :)
Could it be Two Doors Down by Annie McCartney? I have not read this but I've heard it as a radio series. The main character is a cleaner called Sally, but it is set in Belfast in Northern Ireland not in England.
The Rose Revived has a Sally that cleans houses. It seems to be a chick-lit. Do you remember the cover?

No idea of title or author, sorry! Looked like a good read. Anyone recognise it? Many thanks :)
