Cara sat rock still on the stool and cringed as the hat was put upon her head. She had no idea what house she was going to get and was scared that the hat would tell everyone that she didn't belong in any of the houses and she would be send home.

Oh don't be ridiculous, the Hat scolded, having heard the girl's last thoughts. Why would you think you don't belong?

Cara jumped as the hat spoke in her head, I don't know, she thought, I guess I don't think that I would really be able to fit in anywhere.

Well you're here aren't you? the Hat said. You'd be surprised how often I hear concerns like yours. Now where to put this girl... Obviously, Slytherin was out of the question, and Ravenclaw seemed an equally unlikely House.

Cara sat impatiently on the stool as she waited for the hat to make a decision. She sat on her hands to keep herself from biting her nails, which was a nervous habit she had.

"Gryffindor!" the Hat cried, making its choice.
