Read in 2018, but book may be older. Man was executed in electric chair. He would never reveal why he killed the preacher. It was revealed he thought the preacher and his wife had an affair while he was missing during the war. Southern setting. Wife actually had affair with black man and preacher helped her get an abortion. She thought her husband was dead. SOLVED
