Hello all! Very nice to meet everyone! Love our team name name too!!! Very excited about this but also a bit nervous - first Tower Teams and first time captain :). So glad to have Amanda as a mentor, she was my captain in my very first team challenge and she rocks!!!

I love Sci Fi and fantasy, also contemporary general and young adult. Would like to read more of non fiction and mystery/crime.

Amanda (daughterofoak) | 3473 comments Hi Misty Mountain Trolls! You have my favorite team name :D.

I'll be your mod mentor, so just let me know if you have any questions or if there are any issues you need worked out. You'll be seeing me around a lot!

You'll be a great captain! :D

message 11: by Nichole (new)

Nichole | 980 comments Hey everyone! My favorite genres are Romance (just about any kind), Fantasy, Urban Fantasy and Paranormal. This is my second TT challenge but I've done many team challenges. I'm sure you'll do great Elena :)

message 12: by Sarah (last edited Oct 21, 2014 01:25PM) (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments Checking in. My shelf I am using I renamed TT3, it was my wheel a thon shelf and only had nine books on it, so I am re using it. Do we have an actual man on our team? Or is Chris a woman? I am gonna peruse y'all' s pages and see what you are about.

My favorite genres are literary/general and historical fiction, but I read classics, horror, murder/mystery/suspence, memoirs/non-fiction, sci-fi/dystopia/post-apocalyptic, magical realism. Don't do romance and tend to think most YA is poorly written.

message 13: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments Yes Chris, I now see you are a female, just like almost everyone discussing books on Goodreads.

message 14: by Rebecca (last edited Oct 21, 2014 01:31PM) (new)

Rebecca (rebeccasg) | 3921 comments Yeah I've noticed that too Sarah. I guess girls are more prone to enjoy chatting about books non-stop. :)

My shelf is called "Misty-Mountain-Trolls" and is here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

message 15: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rebeccasg) | 3921 comments You'll be awesome Elena! It'll be so fun I thin you'll enjoy being a captain

message 16: by Megan (new)

Megan (megantron119) | 159 comments I love the name too! My shelf has the team name in it. I read pretty much anything. Some of my favorite series include, Harry Potter, Hush, Hush, Across the Universe, Thirst, Divergent, etc.

I can't wait to get started! I am leaving for vacation the day this starts, but I will be reading and checking in when I can. Just one question, what if we can't get a copy of the books of the month? Do we have to read the book of the month?

message 17: by Elena (last edited Oct 21, 2014 01:52PM) (new)

Elena | 1403 comments Thanks guys! And I have no doubt this challenge will be so much fun!

Hi Megan! Yay for you going on vacation, hope it's some place warm and with great food! Reading books of the month is optional I believe, we'll get extra points for participating in discussions and writing questions.

Copied from the All About TT thread:
For BOM (Book of the Month) discussions
Writing a day's worth of discussion questions = 40 points
Participating in a BOM (participating in discussion) = 20 points
NOTE: We will accept one team member per book per team for writing a days DQs. message 19: by Jaclyn (new)

Jaclyn Hey team!! I'm new to Tower Teams but I've done a couple other group challenges and I'm addicted to book challenges in general! I read just about anything if it has a good rating or is friend recommended, but my favorite genres are Paranormal, Historical Fiction, Contemporary Romance, & Crime/Suspense/Thriller. I can't wait to get started and get to know everyone! Feel free to send friend requests!

I'm still at work, so once I get home I'll create my shelf and update with the name.

message 20: by Sarah (last edited Oct 21, 2014 10:31PM) (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments I am joining in some of the buddy reads in November and December - also I have already volunteered to do BOM daily questions for two of the BOMs next month. The one I didn't do is the sci-fi/fantasy category. If someone wanted to volunteer for that one, I do have the other ones covered - YA and Anything Goes.

message 21: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments And you do not have to read the BOMs, but each member that does will get 20 points.

message 22: by Jaclyn (new)

Jaclyn Here is the link to my team shelf.

message 23: by Jaclyn (new)

Jaclyn I know the challenge hasn't started yet, but what's everyone reading right now? I just started Seventh Grave and No Body (Charley Davidson, #7) by Darynda Jones . It was released today and I had to start it right away because I love this series! Next up will be Fool Moon (The Dresden Files #2) by Jim Butcher , which I need for another challenge.

message 24: by Sarah (last edited Oct 21, 2014 07:08PM) (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments I am reading Wool Omnibus (Silo, #1) by Hugh Howey - waiting to finish when I get it back from library. When I find time I gotta get back to All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr - only 13 percent, but haven't had time to get back to it. Listening to The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters . About to start Blood Meridian, or The Evening Redness in the West by Cormac McCarthy . Would like to squeeze in Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout and Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford

message 25: by Jaclyn (new)

Jaclyn I've heard a lot of good things about Cormac McCarthy...I may need to read something of his soon!

message 26: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments I have only read The Road by Cormac McCarthy - he is very dark and dreary. But I also thought the story was beautiful. I don't know what to expect in Blood Meridian. I am reading it for my real live book group.

I'm going to Florida so it will definitely be warmer than it is here at home at least lol. Thanks for responding to my question. :)

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm reading The Son of Neptune (The Heroes of Olympus, #2) by Rick Riordan because I wanted to reread the first four books before getting to the last one (aka I'm putting off finishing the series).

message 29: by Elena (new)

Elena | 1403 comments Sarah wrote: "I am reading Wool Omnibus (Silo, #1) by Hugh Howey - waiting to finish when I get it back from library. When I find time I gotta get back..."

Sarah, I'm planning to read most of the books you're currently reading someday! Very interested to hear what you think.

I'm reading The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty right now and also started Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson and The Diviners (The Diviners, #1) by Libba Bray for the YA challenge I'm trying to complete.

message 30: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments I read Treasure Island last month and I actually liked it.

message 31: by Elena (new)

Elena | 1403 comments Sarah wrote: "I read Treasure Island last month and I actually liked it."

It's one of my favorite adventure books, I first read as a child and loved it. Really wanted to join the group read but other books got in the way.

I love this series, haven't read the last one yet either and considering rereading the whole thing starting with The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #1) by Rick Riordan for one of the challenges sometime next year :)

message 33: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rebeccasg) | 3921 comments @Sarah - I just read The Road by Cormac McCarthy and I agree, super dark and depressing! Also pretty slow which really fit with the mood/setting. Also, I've read Olive Kitteridge and Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet and really liked both of them! Can't wait to hear what you think :)

message 34: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rebeccasg) | 3921 comments @TheButterflyEffect - Is coverThe Son of Neptune a different series with Percy or a continuation of the The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #1) by Rick Riordan series? I read that one and really liked it, so I'd love to read more!

message 35: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rebeccasg) | 3921 comments @Elena, I can't wait to hear what you think of The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty ! I read that last year and loved it!

Sorry for all the posts, just catching up from over-night :)

message 36: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rebeccasg) | 3921 comments As far as Buddy reads and BOM:
I am hoping to read the BOM for November : The Crossing Places (Ruth Galloway, #1) by Elly Griffiths .

Also I plan on joining in the "informal" buddy reads for Still Alice by Lisa Genova and The Two Towers (The Lord of the Rings, #2) by J.R.R. Tolkien + The Return of the King (The Lord of the Rings, #3) by J.R.R. Tolkien (if they happen).

message 37: by Jaclyn (last edited Oct 22, 2014 09:57AM) (new)

Jaclyn @Rebecca...it's a spinoff series and Percy is still on it. It's another good series! I'm also just needing to read the last one (Blood of Olympus). That's another one I have coming up!

I've also read The Husband's Secret (sorry I'm using my phone app and can't add links)...and I thought it was really good!! After reading that one, I added the rest of the authors books to my TBR.

message 38: by Jaclyn (new)

Jaclyn I should also mention that I'm a big series reader. I'm currently in the middle of 37 series (I'm not even exaggerating!). So I made myself a rule to not start any new series until I've finished at least half of the ones I've started! We'll see how that goes!!

Oh and I'll probably do a buddy read with Steven from Scions of the Dark to get us some extra points :)

message 39: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rebeccasg) | 3921 comments @Jaclyn - I am a big series reader too! Except I never seem to finish any (unless I start reading when the series first comes out). I haven't counted how many I have started, but it's probably less than 37! Wow that's a lot!

message 40: by Jaclyn (new)

Jaclyn I hadn't realized how many I had, but I joined the group "Series Readers Anonymous" and created a page to keep track of all of them, and yep! It was actually 38, but I just finished one (thanks to my new rule lol). When I actually was able to visualize how many I had started, that's when I knew I had to start finishing them!

message 41: by Nichole (new)

Nichole | 980 comments Oh boy, I don't even want to know how far behind I am on series! I always seem to be starting new ones >.<

I've been pretty busy the last few months and my reading time has been cut in half :( Unfortunately, I don't see that changing any time in the next few months either. So, I'll be checking in and reading but not as active as before. Sorry guys!

I'm hoping to start Magic Breaks in the next day or two and finish off One Reckless Summer tonight.

Oh yeah! My shelf is tower-teams-3

message 42: by Nichole (new)

Nichole | 980 comments I did this in the last TT challenge for LJB.

Just For Fun!

What Will You Get Trick or Treating?

message 43: by Jaclyn (new)

Jaclyn @Nichole, I got a tin of cat food! Lol

message 44: by [deleted user] (new)

@Jaclyn If my "continue the series" shelf is anything to go off I have about 55 series to continue...

@RebeccaS Like Jaclyn said it's a spin off series. It's very good! A tad older then the original series, and a little more complex in it's plot as there are about 9 main characters and the POV switches a bit

message 45: by [deleted user] (new)

@Nichole I got a pair of glow in the dark socks!

message 46: by Jaclyn (new)

Jaclyn Wanna trade your glow in the dark socks for some cat food? Lol

message 47: by Nichole (new)

message 48: by [deleted user] (new)

@Jaclyn

I do have a cat...

message 49: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rebeccasg) | 3921 comments Woohoo I got a bag of just green M&Ms! Yum

message 50: by Chris (last edited Oct 22, 2014 07:58PM) (new)
