I had never heard of the Theatrical Syndicate before. It was an interesting part of the story. I loved how Adelia blamed her husband for not allowing her to join the syndicate, and he blamed her.
I’d never heard of this Syndicate before either. Having lived in New York, I often wondered about the origins of Broadway and this gave insight.
Also, that dumb rule about a child’s father being automatically the husband of the mother was news to me. Just imagine how many ancestry records are flat out wrong because of this practice.

Yep, I bet there is a lot of incorrect information in the ancestry records. Just think of a girl from a rich family getting pregnant. The parents would sometimes marry their daughter off to a rich older man who needed an wife and an heir. Or, mother and daughter may take a long holiday in Europe where the mother would come back with a surprise child.
